Going to be interesting to see how it's structured. Probably heavily incentive based.

Bridgewater base salary probably $5
Day one starter would give him signing bonus..
every game he starts get x amount...
Total up to $15 M...

The $10 M for McCown that insurance if Bridgewater can not take the starting job... His $10 M is backup money...

Also insurance if the rookie isn't ready .... Both McCown and Teddy on 1 year contracts definitely signals a QB will be drafted

That scenario I can live with. I really want to see if Teddy can get back to where he was before injury. He is a QB I can really rally behind and I know his teammates will feel the same way.

The thing about his horrific knee injury, he's a QB.
He probably needs to wear a brace and if he rehabbed it correctly and the Doctors say he is good to go then it's going to be a hell of a signing.
He went to the probowl the year before he got hurt. He won rookie of the year before that. His arrow is pointing up.
He plays up to his old potential, the Jets got a steal. They cab resign or even franchise tag him going into next year.
What this means going forward is the pressure to draft a young QB is lessened. Bridgewater is only a year or two older than these kids coming out, and he has NFL experience. Even better, he has already excelled in the NFL. The only hiccup is the knee, that he is two years removed from injuring.
If the Jets take a QB at 6 and Bridgewater turns out to be back to his old form or better, then the Jets have the best case scenario,

It seems like some fans are worried about a situation where Bridgewater ends up succeeding, and we’re “stuck” with a QB we drafted at #6.

To that, I say....that’s a great problem to have! So many options would be available, including letting the youngster learn for a few years (like every QB should), or getting Garrapolo-like return in a trade.

I'd rather the Bradford type of return,plus a little kicker.:global (5):

20 million dollars next year for a guy who’s built like a house of cards. This guy is laughing all the way to the bank.

And he’ll probably injure himself on the way there!

Bradford reportedly broke his throwing hand earlier today signing his contract.....

I actually meant the return the Eagles got when they traded him and the kicker isn't an actual kicker, it's another pick to sweeten the deal.

As we all probably recall, McCowns first season contract was structured similarly. Incentive based contracts are fair to both sides. It eliminates some of the risk for the team and at the same time allows the player to get paid for the success he has. I just hope they allowed themselves a way to keep him from moving on if he demonstrates FQB ability like ASJ just did to us.

Teddy Bridgewater's contract is team friendly with the option if he proves he can be the day one starter he will not only take the job but the incentives in his contract will active and he will be paid this year as that starter option... Depending on how he looks by mid way through the season hoping the Jets put in option to extend his current deal...

Josh McCown's contract is likely exactly last year for every game he starts there will be bonuses paid but they increased his base salary on the premise of how he played last year...

I wouldn't put it past the team to keep Hackenberg as the third QB... Unless they fell in love with one QB in this year's draft will they move on from him... Then again they are in the primed position to maximize the roster leaving the option to carry four QBs... Just saying...

I think you hit it right on here. I also hope, as I mentioned in my post, that his contract included a provision to extend him if he proves to be worthy. I think this likely will be McCown's last season as a player. I wouldn't be surprised though to see him brought back next season as perhaps a QB coach.

If he's playing well I could see them try to sign him to a long term deal and if they can't, they can always tag him.
its going to come down to how Hack or a rookie QB looks if they draft one.

Rookie of the Year and a Pro Bowler...and he's 25.

If he's healthy, it's an incredible pickup. If not, presumably the contract will protect the team from injury.

I absolutley love this move. I believe you were the one that was VERY high on him on our old board.
Uber smart kid.

This is a legit signing and if he's healthy, this kid could help us in many ways than one.

Now that Bridgewater passed his physical and is official, and we traded up to 3 for a QB, can we get a refund on McCown? :global (21):

Teddy B's "$15MM" contract is only $500k guaranteed. If he's on the opening day roster, he gets $5MM. The rest is incentives.
