Why did we bring Vinny back Opening Night?

Long time lurker, 43 year season ticket holder. I haven't seen this brought up anywhere, but why, oh why, would the Jets tempt fate and bring back Vinny?? Opening Day, 1999, we had the same hopes and optimism for a great season, and Vinny ruptures his Achilles tendon and we are done. What happens Monday? We all know, eerily similar. Given our past history, why tempt fate and bring him back?? I would have rather seen ANYONE ELSE brought back.

In the early 70s, Sonny Jurgensen came back from an achilles tear and went 6-2. He was 38. Rodgers is in good shape, if motivated, we should have another Opening Day for him.

no conspiracy here - Vinny was the Jets QB when 9/11 happened so it was right to have him there for the remembrance of that fateful day - we as Jets fans just weren't let in on the joke that the football gods had one more dummy slap for the franchise.

There were many celebrities and former Jets players there! This was like a game and scene like no other. So Vinny being there wasn’t surprising. It’s just so unfortunate what happened but here we or they are and it’s time to move on. There just isn’t any other way. We will rally around Zach and prey he can help this Super Bowl ready team to some type of success.
