I have zero reason to believe he ignored a call. Miscommunication amongst rookies led to this - all get the blame.
Nobody QB sneaks for 2.5 yards and you sure as heck don’t do with with Suh and Vita tree trunk in the middle against a backup center and 2 backup OTs .
Call it whatever make you sleep better but it was the dumbest play since the butt fumble .

and who left it in as an option? That's the bigger problem. Why would a sneak be in the playbook for anything more than 1 yard? You're telling the QB it's a viable option.

The HC said the ball was supposed to go to Berrios period. Anything else said is coach speak to protect the QB . The Jets know what they have and now so do the fans . We don’t have to protect his ego but they sure as heck do for their sakes and for all of ours .
This bone head kid is really good and even I who wanted no part of him can admit that .

The best commentary so far...

1. I’m surprised by how much blame some people are assigning Zach Wilson for the failed fourth-and-2 play late in the game. I thought Robert Saleh explained it pretty well after the game. The play had a built-in read that if there was no player in the gap between the center and guard, the quarterback was to run the sneak. Some people have called this an “option” but I don’t see it as an option. That implies that Wilson had a choice to make. This was a read. It was an “if, then” statement. If there is no one in the gap, sneak the ball. That is what he did.

According to this opinion, and in conjunction with Saleh's commentary, it makes Saleh's comment about running the play as designed look a lot less like covering for his QB.

Saleh described it as a communication issue, it sounds as though Wilson wanted to be the reason they won rather than taking the better option which, no matter how good of a game he had, should be treated as a red flag.
