Would it be a mistake for Jets to draft another QB?

Tough call. I'd say you carry four for this year, and then let McCown walk if any of the three show signs of being the guy. If any of them show that they are absolutely not the guy, you cut bait with them.

At least that's how I'd handle it. It's a sacrifice you have to make.
but again, the gigantic catch-22 in this scenario still is, there's no way to get them all the reps necessary to make that kind of critical evaluation.. hell, it was difficult enough to get petty & hackenberg reps in OTAs & training camp last year.. the collective bargaining agreement has seen to that.. my thoughts anyway..

I agree, but I'm not sure how you address that and make sure you have a veteran in to show these guys how to handle their business. It's a very difficult game.

Do you place one on the practice squad? That still doesn't solve the reps problem.

I don't think a veteran is necassary in my opinion past what I stated in my above post. McCown is there to help them learn the system.. As far as work ethic goes and teaching them that Petty can handle that role easily... Everyone in the organization has said he is the hardest worker in the building. Heck my buddy knows someone that works in the training facilityand he said Petty is usually there waiting in the parking lot for them to unlock the doors.. I have no idea if that is true or not but his work ethic has always been his strongest quality and his strong arm.

I'm not sure I agree with this. The reason I'd be more inclined to take a long-term prospect, at any position, over a guy whose returns will be immediate is that I think the Jets are going to struggle, with or without an impact player at #6. Why draft for 2017, when the team isn't going to be competitive anyway?

A team whose window was closing should draft an immediate impact player. If the Pats, for example, got an early pick for Garoppolo, they are in a win-now, mortgage the future mode. The Jets, though? Total opposite end of the spectrum.

If they take a QB at #6, he better be starting right away. Tired of red-shirting all these QB's.

If you draft a qb to add to the stable, then yes, it's a mistake. If you draft aqb this year, you better be able to proclaim him the undeniable game 1 starter on draft day. These first and second round picks are way too important to passed over for bench warmers.
