If we narrow down to the two biggest sports in the US, it would be football and baseball. Now, I'm not knocking basketball. But it's going to come in third on the list.
The NFL and MLB have similar numbers of teams; 30 and 30, respectively.
The NFL teams have rosters twice as large (55) as the MLB teams at 26.
One would think, without knowing anything more, that the NFL teams would have to play more games compared to the MLB teams to pay for the roster size.
When we check the number of games, though, the NFL teams play 17 games during the regular season. The MLB teams play 162 games. 162. 9.5 times as many games!
