I don't understand why coaches are so stubborn to have players fit their system rather than building a system around the players we have. [B/B]That would be the first question I'd ask in a coaching interview. We have Sheldon Richardson, he's good at doing this and that. How do you intend to use him?

If they can answer that question well, I'd consider them for the role. Otherwise, I'd move on.
ego, pride, delusion..

some coaches believe with all their heart & soul, if they push hard enough, they can fit a square peg in a round hole..

bowles is a poster child for this mindset..

We could go into how many times Rex wanted guys to play other positions, but with Bowles it look like a free for all? He's constantly doing it. I don't think Bowles ever gives any consideration to designing the defense around the talent you have? This is a Head Coach that has all of his roots in defense and yet his defense is almost as disappointing as his offense.

It's worse, considering the resources put into the defense. How many first and second round picks were used to help this defense. Free agent pick ups?
There are 6 first round picks on this defense, O for the offense.
Now you can say that the defense will get tired being on the field too much with this west coast/east coast offense the Jets are running, because they're not going north or south, but the opening drive vs. the Bills, they went right down the field. Only the into stopped them from scoring and the Bills player should've caught that.

The best coaches, in any sport, fit their system around their talent. Once they've been there a while, they look for talent that fits in their particular system.

Even some good coaches are stubborn as hell. Look at Jacques Lemaire with the 90s Devils. Won some Cups, but that was largely on Brodeur. He got some skilled guys and totally took them out of their game with his system. Wasted talent.
