Jets defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson is not going to let a shoulder injury keep him out of the lineup.
“I’m going to play through it,” said Wilkerson, who did not practice Wednesday. I’m going to do whatever I can for my brothers out there. I want to be out there.”
As for the nature of the injury, the seven-year vet said, “They said it’s a Grade 1 AC joint sprain, so I do rehab and treatment every day and hope it gets better.”
Wilkerson believes he’ll most likely play with throughout the season, but said it’s something that comes with the business. When asked if he’d benefit from a week of rest, he responded, “Yeah. The bye week.”
While the bye week comes in the middle of November, the 27-year-old doesn’t believe his shoulder will affect his play.
“I thought I did a good job on Sunday,” he said. “So I’m not going to out there and be worried about it. I’m going to go out there and do my job.”
Wilkerson played in 62% of defensive plays against the Dolphins, but head coach Todd Bowles said his limited snaps were not a result of injury.
“We got ahead and had some pass rush,” Bowles said. “It was hot first of all, so we tried to rotate a lot of guys in there and that was basically what we were trying to do the whole game.”
