Jets apparently love Wyoming QB Josh Allen

thoughts? Honestly I haven’t seen him play. Just a little research says that his stats are down because he lost talent. He’s a big kid. But has an inconsistent tape and his completion percentage is below 60%... anything good abou him?

Figures the QB the jets like is also the one with, by FAR, the largest bust potential out of any the top QBs coming out this year.

Yawn.

This guy SCREAMS bust. His statistics are garbage, and you can't even use the Carson Wentz argument here (which many analysts do) because at least Wentz lit it up at a small school and showed NFL type intangibles.

This guy certainly doesn't. He could be a decent player but he's nowhere near NFL ready and is absolutely NOT worth trading the farm for. If you are going to trade the farm to get a QB this year it better be Darnold, Rosen, or Rudolph.

Allen has incredible physical tools.

Allen has Joe Flacco's frame/arm strength and he's more athletic than Carson Wentz.

Allen is playing in the same college system that Wentz did, and that's a big plus.

He spends a lot of time under center and this isn't a dink and dunk spread attack.

He has quick feet in his drop and can easily drive the ball into tight windows down the field.

He has a quick, explosive release. He doesn't need a lot of space in order to generate velocity.

Allen makes some incredible throws while on the move and he's a very effective ball carrier.

He can make the free rusher miss and he has a nice blend of speed and power on designed quarterback runs.

He is ultra competitive and will fight for extra yards.

Needs to improve:

Allen forces too many balls

Needs to learn to take some easy completions underneath.

He needs to sacrifice some velocity and improve ball placement in the quick passing game.

Analysis:

College football is loaded with talented signal-callers, but Allen has the highest ceiling of the entire group.

Comparison:

Further developed then this yea's 1st round pick Patrick Mahomes.

He has a much higher upside.

He's a more athletic version of Flacco.

If he can develop his touch and play more efficiently, he will establish himself as the top quarterback in college football.

I’ve said it already a few times. I’m really liking this kid and Darnold. I would be happy with the Allen pick. Hopefully in a trade down for a late first round or second round pick and if he doesn’t pan out, I can live with it. I’m growing very found of Mayfield and Rudolph also. Mayfield attitude and his it factor can be a real plus, if they can get him to stare his attitude in a positive way. He definitely appears to be a NFL quality franchise QB. Rosen worries me because of his Jay cutler type attitude and skinny frame. Jackson from Louisville worries me also with his skinny frame and run first mentality.

If Allen is THE guy, then that is good news for the Jets. Means no trade-up, unless he absolutely blows up in pre-draft workouts and combine. That way we can use #2's on OL/edge/CB.

Josh allen just flat out hasn't passed the ball enough to say he is good. He is a huge risk based on size/strength. When I have watched him, he has a runner's mentality and for me that is a red flag. A QB in the NFL has to be able to win from the pocket - Josh Allen is nowhere near that readiness today. He would be a project to some degree, IMO. You're talking about a guy who wasn't sought after coming out of high school and if he wasn't 6'5" I son't think he would have as many admirers. Gonna be real interesting to see how Mike Mc handles the QB spot in 2018. His future as a GM in the NFL is essentially going to hinge upon it. Coming off Hackenberg, the pressure and scrutiny on him will be tremendous if a candidate has doubts or smells anything like a project. He blew his cushion on Hackenberg.
