Anyone Watch UCLA vs USC?

What did you think of the two quarterbacks? I think Rosen did what Namath did in the Alabama/ Nebraska bowl game in Joe's final performance. His team lost, but we got to see a future NFL star. He showed guys, touch, anticipation (throwing before the receiver made his break) and strong arm.
The announcers seemed to talk about the Sam Darnold's footwork (" nervous feet") . I could just see the Jets drafting him and the coach not playing him for a year because "his mechanics need work".

didn't watch it to know neither of those two qbs won't be wearing green and white next season...

there is a long shot the Jets will be able to take Allen from Wyoming, but out of the three he is the most ready...

I watched it. Rosen could start for the Jets next week. The only thing I'd be concerned about would be Jay Cutler type of interceptions due to the confidence in his arm strength. However, he won't be available when the Jets pick. Darnold is very good at looking downfield when scrambling. However, his throws of over 10 yards all had an arc on them, especially when throwing outside the numbers. Nowhere near the zip on the ball that NFL teams want. Reminded me of Chad in that regard. I just saw a clip where Mel Kiper compared Rosen to Try Aikman!

I saw that same clip. I was impressed with Rosen when I watched thew game, and Kiper seemed to confirm what I saw.

By the way, that bowl game that you referenced was when Joe became my football idol. He actually didn't start that game, as he had his college knee injury. But he came limping in and started flinging the ball all over the place. Alabama would have won that game (It was actually against Texas), but the winning touchdown pass was dropped by...Ray Perkins. Of additional interest to us older Jets fans, one of the Texas touchdowns came on a pass from Jim Hudson to George Sauer, Jr.!

I watched the game. I thought Rosen was very clearly the better QB out of the two. I am also a little worried about the interception in the end zone, but I do agree. He's the cream of the QB crop in my estimation.......

General manager Mike Maccagnan, vice president of personnel Brian Heimerdinger and area scout Brian Shields were among 30 NFL types at the USC-UCLA rivalry game. Unofficially, the Jets and Cleveland Browns had the most representatives among the 20 teams in attendance.

If this isn't as clear a message that Mac is taking a QB this spring, please tell me what is? The time has come. Mac MUST get the Jets going with a franchise QB or else he will not get another opportunity? This draft is very deep with QB's. There will be very successful QB'(s) to come out of this draft.

If Mac misses again on a QB, his 3rd try, I doubt he ever gets another shot at it. At that point, the fan base thinks he's no better than John Idzik. If he does get the Jets a franchise passer, he's the Jets messiah. A guy that is a LORD in NY.

So this is the year. He either gets the Jets a QB or this rebuild FAILS and it's really that simple.........

I watched the game. Rosen clearly is the better technician at this point. I watch a lot of UCLA games (have so for years and years). The concern or question I would have with Rosen is between his ears. You don't want a Cutler clone if you're picking a QB to win a Superbowl. I've seen Rosen sulking on the sidelines after bad drives. He does remind of Cutler at times. That will be a HUGE component of the evaluation by the teams once we get into the post-bowl season camps/interviews. Darnold has the better leadership skills, but is still somewhat undeveloped as a passer in the pocket.

I don't see how the GM cannot take a QB - but he can't just take any QB. IF the Jets identify a candidate that is gonna be a franchise QB, then they must do what it takes to get that guy. They could be sitting at/near pick 6 by season end - how costly will it be to get to #1?

Watched the game, watch about all of the USC games. Rosen is the most NFL ready prospect by far in the draft. Darnold needs at least another year in college. He is strictly a one read QB right now. If his first read is covered he starts scrambling and panics. His mechanics are far from NFL ready. Last thing we need is another project QB. Mac spent most of the pre game and game on the UCLA sideline so he was more focused on Rosen than Darnold.
He should be in talks with the Browns now about that first pick if he wants him , because that is the only way he's going to get a shot at drafting him.

I agree with Seaver. My primary concern with Rosen is character and leadership abilities. Not sure he has those. And that to me should be at the very top of the list of traits. We don't know enough about the kid at this point, but the Jets really need to do their homework if they are interested in him. I'm sure they will.

I think Darold should stay in school - he has more to learn. He has talent, but I thought Herbstreet was spot on - he's a one read QB at this point. I don't think either of them are sure things.

The kid from Oklahoma should just be taken off the Jets draft board entirely. He has bust and Manziel written all over him in my opinion. He doesn't have the size Mac likes anyway...but he's just too immature to be the leader of men at the NFL level.
