But this year, they totally rebuilt. They stripped down almost the entire roster. Experts were commenting on how the roster was among the worst in league history.
And yet they have been competitive in all but two games, and have a record that has surpassed expectations. If they were 5-8 with a bunch of veterans, it would be one thing. But they are 5-8 with a bunch of kids.
Right, but the point is, no matter what the Jets do, they have roughly the same record and it's almost always mediocre. I think a lot of guys, myself included,. hoped that we would just stink bad enough this season to get the chance to draft a top qb. Instead we have about the same record as always and are going to be drafting in about the same spot as usual.
Every season when someone asks me what I think the Jets record will be this year, I tell them somewhere between 6-10 and 10-6 . Mediocre.
Since 1978 when the NFL switched to 16 games, the Jets have won more then 10 games 3 times and won less then 6 games 9 times. Two of the 9 were the Kotite years which was expected.
in 40 years since 1978 we have only won more then 9 games 9 times. We have been the picture of mediocrity.
You might argue that a lot of other teams fall into this same category and it may be true, but don't we want to be like the teams who are not mediocre?
How about this, Since 2001, belichick second season the Cheatahs have won less then 11 games just 3 times and less then 12 games only 5 times. and for you, "they can't win without brady fans" They went 11-5 with Matt Cassel at the helm. ....and if you remember, they missed the playoffs that season because the Jets beat the Dolphins on the last day of the season. Had the Jets lost to the Dolphins that day, I'm willing to bet that Matt Cassel gets a superbowl ring that year and most likely a SBMVP. wonder where brady would be now had that happened? Maybe he would have become a Jet and we would have finally been able to see him get sacked hard and often. What a difference 1 game can make
