Watching Sam Darnold

He’s playing against Ohio State in the Goodyear Cotton Bowl and he is stinking up the joint.

His stock has has dropped in my opinion. I don’t see him being picked in the top ten.

He has a lot of the physical tools. Has problems with ball security so he is a perfect fit for the Jets.

I'm watching too. In my opinion he's a turnover machine. If he can't deal with Ohio's defense how is ever going to deal with an NFL defense?

I hope one of the teams picking before us grabs him so that the Jets can't possibly.

Me too. I’m praying Mayfield falls to us.

I hust finished reading mock draft and in this mock draft they said he is still the number one pick according to nfl scouts and that has been decided a while ago. I don’t see it. Rosen looks like a better player to me.

I so agree. Rosen might be available. I stress might. The Browns have said publicly that they don't want him because of personality and leadership reasons. I am hoping the Browns take Darnold and either the Giants or Denver take Rosen. That would put us in a better position to get what we want.

I think broncos may take a qb. Hopefully they somehow win this weekend and can pick behind us

Bronco's are definitely going to take a QB. It certainly would be nice if they picked behind us. I'll cross my fingers, not that that has ever worked for me before. I have some concerns about Mayfield"s personality but it is clear to me that he is the most NFL ready of the three so hopefully that personality problem can be dealt with.

I'm praying Baker Manziel goes to Browns. He is a system QB and a douche. That will never change. There are way more stories about him off the field than being reported I've heard. Any other position can be a douche, but not the QB.

I have said all year Darnold is not ready to play in the NFL. His mechanics are terrible and he has alot of work to do. Too often he has not been the best QB in the game this year, that doesn't translate to being the best in college football. Ball security can be fixed, mechanics too but the mental aspect can't be coached and I don't know if Darnold has it.

I agree he definitely needs another year in college. None of these QB's are even close to a sure thing. All have major issues. Maybe we will get lucky and have Barkley or a stud OL drop to us.

Honestly, I would prefer to sign Cousins in Free Agency and draft Barkley. What a backfeild and offense we would suddenly have!

I've maintained my opinion from the start of this season, that a lot of these college QBs were overhyped at the start of the year. Darnold was hailed as the next coming of Montana after only what 6 games last year? You don't really know until the season plays out. Darnold has talent, but in my opinion, he's not ready for the NFL. He will be overwhelmed by NFL defenses and the speed of the game. His delivery is too slow and his velocity is average. That extra half of a second in the NFL is the difference between a pick and a completion. He needs more time to develop. Mayfield, well, my opinion on him is well documented at this point. Rosen will be gone before the Jets pick, and he has some questions to answer about his commitment to the game.

In short, I'm not sold on any of these "first round" QBs. The Jets can't afford to miss on a first round QB draft pick. Or any first round pick for that matter. There may be a QB that can become a great starter in later rounds. This is a deep QB class. There are no Mannings or Lucks in this class, but it is a deep class. The Jets would be wise to continue to follow their BPA philosophy. If that's a QB fine, draft him. If not, this team could use upgrades at several positions and they can get a really good player with a top 10 pick. So they should focus on continuing to add good players and not reach for a QB if they are not 100% sold.

Darnold after the game explained his poor showing by saying it's hard to pas when you're on the ground. He's right. His "O" line didn't protect him very well but part of that was on him. He thinks and acts too slow. The two fumbles and the interception were on him. He is not ready for the NFL. Mayfield has the skill set but his personality concerns me still. Don't know if the Jets could deal with that. Originally I was down on Lamar Jackson because his passing game was suspect but he has improved a lot. I'll watch him play today before I decide how I feel about him. He might be the best option for the Jets if his passing game really has improved. He doesn't have a lot of negative baggage.

I will reiterate Sam Darnold = Mark Sanchez...

the worst thing this kid could do is declare for the draft, he isn't ready...

now the post game interview also reveals he isn't ready to be a leader of men, when he basically threw his entire offensive line under the bus... he wouldn't survive at this level right now no matter how much Kirk Herbstreit states that his shelf is higher than any other QB prospect in this draft... you can surround a QB with talent but he needs to be mentally ready to take the helm and work with the team not be the reason the team fails...

Darnold is right. His offensive line didn't help him, but his decision-making was questionable too, and has been throughout this year. He definitely makes some fantastic NFL throws into tight windows. You can see the talent is there. He just needs more time to develop and fix some of his mechanical issues. He'll get drafted if he comes out, and probably very high because he is a great kid by all accounts. But he could really benefit from staying in school one more year. I can understand why he would want to come out early and not risk an injury. Whoever drafts him is going to need to be patient with him in my opinion. To be clear, I'm saying he's far from a sure thing. He's talented, but not a polished QB yet.

Excellent point gmf. Good post. He shouldn't have thrown his offensive line under the bus. In fairness to Herbstreet, he's said repeatedly that Darnold isn't ready for the pros. He may have the most upside of any of the QBs, but he needs more time.
