Jets may need to trade up with Indy or Clev for Mayfield

two have succeeded at that height - how many otherwise very good college QBs at that height have failed?

and at least one reporter who is 5-10 says that he is taller than Mayfield face to face

extremely uphill to succeed at that height in NFL

How many college QBs of ANY size were as good as Baker Mayfield has been the past two seasons? 71% completion rate, 43 TDs to 6 INTs this year, Heisman trophy winner.

Read what Lane Kiffin, and Kirby Smart and Georgia's DC (who has also coached D in the NFL) say about how they think Mayfield will do in the NFL. I predict that he will make every QB-needy team that passes over him (pun intended) regret that decision greatly. Baker Mayfield has the tangibles and the intangibles - especially leadership and competitive fire! - that make for great QBs, and the smart scouts are already aware of that. I saw someone on either ESPN or CBS Sports said that a front office person in the NFL guaranteed him that Mayfield will be gone within the first 15 picks. I hope the Jets are smart enough to not be swayed by TebowCan'tThrow :3: and smart enough to be the team that grabs Baker Mayfield.

I'm not saying that this other Big12 QB was good as Mayfield, but some stats sure are similar

He was a Jet.

Fair enough, that's a good one :). But there were always questions about Geno's leadership and ability to not lock in on one receiver, and neither one of those are questions with Mayfield. And to be honest, I really do feel that in the right situation, Geno could still become a successful QB in the NFL, he always demonstrated the physical abilities, and with better coaching and more time to learn I think he would have improved more quickly. He might have almost as much physical ability as BM, but he doesn't even come close in the intangibles and pure football IQ.

I'm pretty sure they aren't reading what I'm writing about Baker Manziel. I just don't believe in him at all on or off the field. I know he doesn't have the physical size and he is not even as good an athlete as Geno. He is extending plays vs HS kids not men. If you put Jerry Rice, TO, Emmitt Smith and Dallas OL in front of him he might succeed. If not, there are too many red flags for me. He can't take a snap from under center. That is not an NFL offense at Oklahoma. So many gimmick plays. The only thing that gives him an edge is he does play with a lot of fire, but that will not work every week in the NFL. He will bring a circus to NY that will be way bigger than Tebow ever did. At this point if the Jets take him then I wouldn't be surprised. They have been wrong for 50 years so whats another year.

I think Mayfiled measures in at 6'0, 5'11 at worst.... With that said.. He had scholarships, a nice free ride, to many non-major programs, and passed them all up, Instead he walks on to a major program (Texas Tech), gets a little luck goes 5-0 as a freshman throws for 2300 yds and 12 tds before getting injured and loses the starting job... Then leaves that program walks on to another MAJOR college (Oklahoma) program sits out a year and wins the starting job once eligible and becomes a 3 year starter throws for over 12000 yds and 119 tds....

You just don't walk on to, two major college programs and win the starting QB job.... You have to be special to do that

This kid is a winner and after Rosen he is the QB I want the most. He is a football player, and plays with passion..

Any comparison to Manziel is idiotic. Manziel played for the love of fame... That will get you killed in the NFL. Mayfield plays for the love of the GAME!!

the one thing you didn't write is he didn't NEED a scholarship since his parents a flush bank accounts... so he took a leap of faith and walk-on to a program that his parents flipped the bill... he may be a true competitor but he is also a reckless one off the field because he has mommy and daddy's wallet protecting him...

this is the comparison to Manziel they speak of, both party off the field without regard to the law knowing that their parents with money will bail them out...

Yup both born with a silver spoon which is why he acts like a douche on the field and off it too. He knows there are no consequences. Coaches and teammates just say oh he is passionate. Sorry you have to be able to control your emotions to be a leader of an NFL team. I just have a bad feeling about him and think he is going to flop in the NFL. I've been wrong before for sure. I just don't want a douche for a franchise QB.

As far as his accuracy goes, he throws a lot of short passes. Not sure I've seen many throws outside the numbers from him. I know he hasn't taken more than a handful of snaps under center. I know he is very short. I know his numbers are bloated by the system and conference he plays in. I know we blew it by not taking Watson who is a way better human and leader and we saw what he can do in the NFL. I know he is a douche. Like I said, I have been wrong before.

NOPE.. SHow me all the articles of how much he parties off the field compared to Manziels.... From what i have seen he had one transgression. I guess we should cut Robby Anderson too for his one transgression as well. The comparison to Manziel is weak. And So what his parents have a nice big bank account... Does it take away from the fact that he WALKED ON to 2 Major programs and won the starting job. NOPE.

He's fine. and again the comparison to Manziel as a reason to not draft him is as weak as the reason to not draft Derek Carr was because he is David Carr's brother. You have no merit and no facts to substantiate him being a party person, a douche or whatever else people want to call him. And as far as your passion argument goes well I guess you wouldn't want Tom Brady on your team cause we haven't seen him lose his composure on the field or on the sidelines during a game at least 2, 3 times a year.... Come on.....

No as far as his ability to throw outside the numbers, I have seen him do it and no it hasn't been often but that was also a knock on Brees and Wilson and Cousins and Pennington... Lets see how the workouts go. But I totally disagree with you and a few others on here about Mayfield. I totally do not want Allen and I don't care he's 6'5 rocket arm and athletic.. He will be Hackenberg 2.0...

I guess this time next year we will see who is right then

now both Darnold and Rosen also come from money that why there is a statement about Rosen if he really loves the game of football or does he have other desires... Darnold like Rosen have the talent but does Darnold care about taking his game to the next level and leaving school where he should of stayed to improve his game should show he is not serious about the game as everyone says he is...

Darnold is going to need a surrounding cast and time to develop at the next level, does he have the patience to get his shot?

Rosen is the more ready of the two, can start day one but will he get tired of the failures and decide to leave the for other interests?

Another well off (financially) prospect is Mason Rudolph but to this point has shown his willingness for the game and his desire to improve his craft of the top 5 QB prospects, Rudolph a second round pick is the best long term solution for any organization looking for long term stability... Stidham like Rudolph has potential but will need time to correct his pocket presence and footwork, by chance he gets his shot he could develop into a decent starter with capable pieces surrounding him...

So in turn I don't want to gamble because the Top 4 QBs Darnold, Rosen and Mayfield are 50/50 types with Lamar Jackson likely to be the next Terrelle Pryor QB turned WR...

off field -- Baker Mayfield was arrested in Fayetteville, Ark., on four charges, including public intoxication, disorderly conduct, fleeing and resisting arrest.
off field -- He get kicked out of a Lubbock restaurant, no official report made of the incident (no police report)
off field -- Undisclosed Incident (school violation) -- On June 15, 2017, the OU ordered Mayfield to undergo 35 hours of community service along with completing an alcohol education program.

on field -- crotch grabbing gesture vs Kansas
on field -- the OU flag at center of OSU center field incident

I could care less about the crotch grabbing and the OU flag incident... the off field stuff is a concern but again no where near Manziel...

But again.. we will see who is right and who is wrong and believe me if we take Allen and he turns out to be great. I won't give an F about what Mayfield is doing and eat crown on saying I think Allen will be Hack 2.0

But from what I can see Mayfield is a much better QB and it's not even close.

Wait no merit?? Grabbing your crotch. Throwing a ball at a players head during warm-up. Being tackled by police. There's your merit. I'm not mesmerized by his bloated numbers. And yes we disagree. You have zero idea what Allen or any QB will turn into. Just like I don't either. I will admit I'm wrong if he turns into a HOF. If he cleaned up his attitude I would have less issues with him, but I know the system is why his numbers are what they are.

I like him, I like him better than Allen and Darnold. But what the hell do I know I am a 46 year old Executive Leadership Trainer. He passes my eye test on if we should like him or not.... I don't think any prospect is a can't miss. You are right neither one of us know what he will be what Allen will be or any of the QB's.

FYI my track record on QB'S in the last few years I liked and wanted the Jets to draft

DeShaun Watson
Carson Wentz
Aaron Murray
Marcus Mariota
Bryce Petty
Connor Cook
Russel Wislon

QB I didn't want any part of and absolutely did not want the Jets to draft

Jared Goff
Paxton Lynch
DeSean Kizer
Jamies Winston
Terry Bridgewater
Geno Smith
EJ Manuel

I don't know.. Looking at that list I feel like I am as good as any GM in judging QB talent.... LOL!!!!
