Let’s be honest, Maccagnan has done a poor job on this side of the ball. Only one of his draft picks started on offense – right tackle Brandon Shell. He deserves credit for unearthing wide receiver Robby Anderson, a former undrafted free agent, but there’s an overall dearth of talent.

The Jets averaged 18.6 points per game, mainly because of McCown’s heart and brain. You can't win with that number unless your defense resembles the '85 Chicago Bears. They haven’t had a top-10 scoring offense since 2008, when Brett Favre was the quarterback. They’ve been using first-round picks on defense since 2010, which defies all logic.

Aside from quarterback, the Jets need a center, a No. 1 running back, a No. 1b receiver and a tight end (if they don’t re-sign Austin Seferian-Jenkins). There was plenty of talent on the table in last year’s draft -- Kareem Hunt and Alvin Kamara were third-round picks -- but Maccagnan went in different directions, not getting much immediate bang for his buck.

Pittsburgh Steelers star Le'Veon Bell will be a free agent, and he'd be ideal in their West Coast offense because of his versatility.

There is no guarantees that wide out/h back Quincy Enunwa will be back next year as there has been little to no updates on his progress. We do have his replacement on the roster in Jermaine Kearse as a slot receiver and if they do intend to bring back ASJ he is the team's h back role. After RA and Kearse the next best option is rookie Hansen who showed flashes he can be dependable but the depth at the receiver position isn't very talented. There is a misconception in what Stewart could be but when he is on the field they almost always run the ball, so his potential as a receiver to this point is moot at best.

Can Jalin Marshall take the next step as early in his first two seasons he showed he has potential but with the PED suspension, is he more than likely gone this off season? Charone Peake who was placed on injured reserve showed awareness early but to this point he has been only a project player with a high shelf and he hasn't really impressed to this point.

The likely move is to send Matt Forte packing with a cap savings of $3 Million makes him a cap casualty. Bilal Powell like Forte entering the final year of his three year contract could be trade bait as the team puts it's full confidence behind rookie Elijah McGuire whom showed a good ability to be one two punch combo moving forward. The key is if that is the plan they would need to draft or find a young veteran in free agency to tandem him with, long shot Le'Veon Bell is an option but more delusional at best.

The main position is signal caller and there are a few big names on the market whom would do well in signing here: Starting off with Alex Smith who is likely out in K.C., wouldn't be smart to pour money into this free agent as he has too many downs than ups over the years. Then there is Kirk Cousins who hasn't had the supporting cast but when he has he hasn't taken advantage of those situations. Both Smith and Cousins have commanded their perspective teams well with some success but like our last QB there is no killer instinct to carry those teams on their backs moving forward. There is one interesting free agent in Teddy Bridgewater coming off a horrific injury could be a short term solution with long term rewards as long as he continues to improve his durability from that injury. He is a pocket passer with some mobility but to have a fan base cringe every time he runs with it or takes a hit in the pocket might be too much for this fan base to endure. To it begs to differ the reason why they are keeping the door open for a Josh McCown return as the talent pool in free agency isn't deep unless the team thinks they will be able to acquire a player like Drew Brees for next season.

If Enunwa is back, I have faith in the Enunwa/Anderson/Kearse pairing at WR. It may not be the most dynamic in the league, but it is one of the more solid WR units. Add ASJ to the mix, and I am pretty confident there. The depth is there from guys recently drafted, like Stewart, Hansen, and Peake. If you really wanted to give a young QB another weapon, you could always pursue a WR in free agency, like Kearse's former Seattle WR mate Paul Richardson. That would further upgrade the WR corps for the future, and give the team both weapons and protection for a young QB.

OL, I think a healthy Winters would do a lot to secure the line. Maybe you move on from Carpenter, but I think he provides enough stability to keep him and Winters in place at the guard spots. Ideally, I'd like to see a OT project brought in to groom behind Beachum, maybe someone who could play RT until he wrests the LT spot away from Beachum. I still have some hope for Shell, but this is what I think would be best for the franchise long-term. C must be addressed. I went into this season with concerns about Johnson, even with how decently he stepped in when Mangold was hurt a couple years ago, but he is not a long-term answer. That may be one of the places the franchise would be well suited using some of its cap space. I'd give a hard look to Ravens FA Ryan Jensen. He's 26, started every game this past season for the Ravens, and did a very good job in that spot. He is hitting the market, and would be a solidifying force at the center of the line for years to come. And he's only going to get better. Of course, the team could go really big and make a run at Nate Solder for LT if he hits the market, but I doubt that happens. I'd use a combination of the draft (RT/LT) and free agency (C) to address the line. On the other hand, it's not a great draft at OT, but that may make a solid OT available in a middle round. One other possibility is that the Jets don't go C in free agency, and instead Billy Price falls to them with their first pick in the second round. I'd be surprised if he fell that far, and it's a big chance to take if you sit out the first 6 weeks of free agency for him.

At RB, I think Forte is not back. That means probably drafting a RB in the middle rounds. My ideal back would be a tackle-to-tackle power back to match Powell and McGuire. Maybe Royce Freeman, Josh Adams, or Bo Scarborough around rounds 3-4. Then you have Powell as more your traditional all-around back, McGuire could be your change of pace, and you have a power back for between the tackles and short down situation.

And, of course, there is the gaping hole at QB. Assuming you look at four truly potential big-name QBs on the board, Darnold, Rosen, Allen, and Mayfield, at #6, one of them will likely be on the board. The Browns won't take two QBs in the top 4, and the Colts are in bed with Luck. So if the Browns don't trade out of #4 to another QB-starved team, the Jets should be in position to land one of those four, even if the Giants, Browns, and Broncos all go QB. (The Broncos going QB would end the Paxton Lynch experiment, by the way, so as much as people rip on the Jets for Hack, think about that.) Now, if the Broncos decide to give Lynch more of a look, they could go OT here and pick Williams or McGlinchey to protect Lynch's blindside. That would mean the Jets might have their pick of Mayfield or Allen, assuming Darnold enters the draft. Either way, I think the scenario is likely that the Jets should have one of those four QBs available to them, if they think all four would be worth a top 6 pick.

So if the Jets use a first on a QB, a third and a fourth on OT and power RB, and are active in bringing in a solid, younger starting center and possibly one WR, while looking in the later rounds for some potential OL depth, you have addressed the major offensive deficiencies without spending a ton of cap room, and you still have two second rounders to spend on defense. New QB, new C, new rotational RB, and a future LT/current RT rotation guy. That puts the offense on much firmer ground.

Sack, I agree with everything but the OL. Ryan Jensen is a no brainer. Carpenter and Winters need to go. We got the cash! find young 2 OG in FA. There is one starting for the Panthers and the other, well lets wait and see. CB is a need (Gaines).

Carpenter and Winters are fine ( Winters played hurt all year) We need a Center.... If we get a Center you will see a very Different OL.... I would like more competition at Tackle too but our problem this year was at C... Caused many issues inside. I would't blame the G's as much as I blame the C

I agree with this, but Winters spends too much time on the trainers table so a viable replacement/heir would be a smart move.

I'm not certain there will be that many readily available upgrades. I'd rather hold onto them and groom a young, later round pick or two to come in. If an upgrade is readily available, then fine, go for it. My line of thinking is that I don't know of many guys who would truly be long-term upgrades.

We had Mangold in there with Ferguson and our OL sucked. Now your going to add a Center and all of a sudden our OL is fine. Winters had (1) good year. his contract year. Now he reverted back to his old self (injured). Carpenter was a good addition, but now is getting old. Our OL is almost in shambles and you think just a Center is going to turn our OL around.

Winters was hurt all season torn stomach muscle suffered in the Oakland game, and he played basically the entire season, even tho he had his ups and downs he was consistently average... Expect him to bounce back next season but do think we need to find his replacement now rather than later... Maybe they already have in Ben Braden who was on the practice squad for the entire season the Michigan product was solid in college starting over 40 games...

As for Carpenter he is a road grader and in this type of game plan he is not the "a" typical type guard we need on the left side... We need someone more of a pass blocker where they can shift and help the blind side if we are to continue to roll with Beachum at left tackle... Beachum at times looked like a lost puppy in pass protection, whereas having that pass first mentality at left guard may help someone like Beachum flourish moving forward...

For me I would either trade or move Beachum to his natural position of right tackle...

Jonnothan Harrison or Wesley Johnson moving forward, eh... Drafting a player like Billy Price or Frank Ragnov could be a day one starter is a need regardless if we attempt to replace anyone else on the offensive line... Harrison would be a good backup but Wesley, wave goodbye...

I disagree on all accounts.. The one or 2 years the OL wasn't good with Brick and Mangold both our G's were awful.... And Winters progressively got better every year... No I agree with OLD#15 he does tend to be on the trainers table to much. SO I am not against competition but I think a full on replacement isn't necassary but an insurance policy is needed f he continues to get hurt. And Carpenter is 28 not old. And you would be amazed at the difference this OL will make with 1. A good Center and 2. a fully healthy Winters makes and most importantly a good QB...

Calling the OL as almost in shambles is something I can see. But I think the OL isn't far off, fix the center, stay healthy, get better QB play. But hey that's my humble opinion

Okay, I can agree with you on that. Also with SackExchange, let those guys play and groom prospects to take over for them
