Jets QB Josh McCown indicated on NFL Network Tuesday that he will likely continue to play in 2018.

"Right now, that's how it's looking," he said. "At this time of the year, I go through those conversations with my family, talk with them through that, pray through that."

At the end of the season there was uncertainty surrounding the future of the Jets' veteran quarterback, whose 2017 campaign ended early after he suffered a broken hand.

"But where we're at right now, I feel like I want to play. ... I'm looking forward to the next few months, seeing what happens, and I'll be ready to go."

McCown finished with 18 touchdowns and nine interceptions in 13 games for the Jets before missing the final three games due to injury. On Tuesday he spoke positively of his first season with the Jets.

"I enjoyed my season there this year," he said. "More than anything just the people in the organization. It's a special place from the ownership down. I enjoyed my time with Coach [Todd] Bowles. A lot of decisions have to be made within the next few months, but I loved being there, and we'll see how it plays out."

He has worked with the new OC before, is familiar with his schemes, and would be the perfect mentor of whichever new QB they draft. He has already said he would be open to that role and would step aside when the new QB is ready. It would be the absolutely best situation.
I'm usually negative around here, but I'm feeling very positive about this.

Here is the thing if he accepts the same pay as last year fine bring him back but in no way should he be handed the starting job like last year... Last year the QB competition was a bullshit at best, we need to let the young ones compete in a real competition and let the best one win... Rather ride or die with a 3rd year Hackenberg, 4th year Petty or first year rookie and let McCown in the background mentor them, in case of an in game injury we have that veteran QB that can step in and take over for that game...

We have enough talent at the RB and WR positions to allow success while taking lumps of real life game action... TB & Maccagnan have their extensions but we need to see something for the future at the QB position and riding with a 39 year old next season is going to turn off many fans...

He can come back only if we draft a QB. Otherwise, he will ruin our chance at a QB next year with his meaningless wins.

You are not really suggesting the fact that you'd be Ok going into next season with the same group of QBs ???

Please don't let this happen , this is the rebuild ?

I'd be happier to get rid of them all and start from scratch

No wonder we're 150-1 next year along with the Browns and Bears

G you said it well! Lets bring in the kids & see what we really have.

My fear is that we already know what they have, other than the one we are drafting and we do need to draft one, Heck I'd even consider adding a second later in the draft as long as we've addressed our other needs, and let the newbies compete with our whatever they are oldies for the job.

I am saying if we do re-sign McCown we won't hand him the starting job like this past season... there was no open QB competition as they said there was, I rather see the youth take their lumps regardless if it is Petty, Hack or a rookie...

I would agree except for the down side of this. If we had started one of these kids this past season and opened up 0-5, which is what probably would have happened with this offensive line, then the team quits on the season early and you don't get to evaluate anyone.

I'm for starting anyone young if we have an offensive line that will give him time to gain confidence. I've said it 10 million times before, brady is what he is because he never had to worry about getting hit from day 1. He never had the fear of being blind sided. You want to rid the league of brady once and for all, let him play a few games behind a shitty offensive line.

Anyway, as I always say build the oline first. we've drafted defensive #1 for a long time and our defense still ranked 25th. build an oline and our defense will improve because of it and then any respectable QB can play for us. If we start a kid, we need an oline that doesn't get him killed or his mind will be ruined forever

Backup only.

I doubt that very seriously? There's really no one in the draft that is a day one starter at QB? All of the QB's coming out, while they have serious potential, not one of them is ready to start day one. If Mac takes a QB and the kid is an instant stud, I still wouldn't think he'd start until at least the mid part of 2018?

If Josh McCown comes back, he's the Jets opening day starter..........

I agree. There's no point in bringing him back unless the Jets are actively grooming a QB behind him. Lets face the facts, Petty and Hack both stink and will never amount to anything.

If the FO and CS of this team signs McCown and passes on drafting a qb in the 1st round... Then I can't wait to see there demise and pray it comes in the middle of the season in an epic, embarrassing way..

You'd be rooting for the Jets failure??? That's a little over the top, don't you think? I get your point, but the only thing that would prove is that Woody must clean house again. I really would rather not see that. It's tough watching them start from scratch over and over again.

If they fired Blowes, I would be very happy, but Mac I still think deserves one more season...........

I am not rooting for our team to fail but this team is not gonna win a championship or be setup for long term success if we pass on a QB this year and go with McCown. In my opinion with McCown we will be 6-10 next year 8-8 at best but reality is McCown won't duplicate this year next year and we will be 3-13 and everything gets blown up and that is my expectation if we don't make moves to get a franchise guy at QB to build sustainable success. I always root for us to win but my comments are based on Reality..

And yes I would rather not clean house again... I think picking the right QB to fit the system will go a long way of settling the franchise and keep moving in the direction of sustainable success.. McCown does not provide that. So draft a QB

You worried, I am, our illustrious HC will name him starter?
