The Jets fired offensive coordinator John Morton earlier this month and they made another change to their offensive coaching staff on Wednesday.

The team announced that they have relieved offensive line coach Steve Marshall of his duties.

Marshall was hired to work with the offensive line after Todd Bowles was named the Jets’ head coach in 2015. The unit has undergone major changes over that time, including the departures of longtime left tackle D’Brickashaw Ferguson and center Nick Mangold. The team has not found similar foundation pieces to build around since they left.

Marshall previously worked for the Packers, Browns and Texans in the NFL and made several stops around the country while in the collegiate ranks.

Now Mac and Blowes have managed to blame Steve Marshall. Can't everyone see through this nonsense? Mac neglected the OL because chose not to take an OL in 2016 or use FA to fix a unit that has been decrepit for a while now. In 2016, Mac chose Darron Lee over trading for Laremy Tunsil.

WHY do you think that happened? Because blowes persuaded Mac to do that. Blowes thought he was getting Deon Buchanon and that awesome, all world, take no prisoners Arizona Cardinals defense. Instead, the Jets have yielded a one dimensional player that blowes does NOT how to correctly utilize. Not to mention, it has further neglected a very obvious problem area in the OL.

Quite frankly, I don't know if Marshall is a good coach or not? All I can tell you is the idea that this is all Marshall's fault is a complete and utter crock of shit. If you want to blame someone blame MAC or blame BLOWES........

Perhaps they are just trying to get a better fit with the new OC, not necessarily anyone getting blamed.

I agree with Old#15. Let the new OC bring in his own staff. We'll see. This doesnt fall in the same category as Morton. Morton was one and done. Marshall had three years to develop young players but he didnt.

having said that, he didnt have much to work with and I blame Mac for that.

Marshall had veteran talent and made them look bad... Have to look James Carpenter was one of the top interior lineman, three years with Marshall he became arguably one of the worst penalized interior lineman right behind Brian Winters, not good... Not to mention Wesley Johnson showed promise early but the last two seasons, woof...

Brandon Shell, at this point if he isn't the starter he will never be, meaning we need to be looking for a full time player at the RT position... Brent Qvale will get a low end tender but after next year don't see him returning just because he is one half of our starting right tackle, which is disgusting...

Kelvin Beachum should be our starting right tackle, because he is a below average left tackle but we have no other options at the moment... Ben Ijalana another woof...

Our best offensive linemen are both backups and special teamers in Dozier, and Harrison... And they don't see the field on offense, well in the final two games and boy did they impress for the free agent market, they both are likely to find employment elsewhere...

this isn't all on Maccagnan, or Bowles... You have a coach who is suppose to develop the talent, bring continuity between the offensive line and for three years did everything not to develop the potential but destroy any resemblance of what was installed here for a decade... Maccagnan brought in depth, because he signed and retained veteran talent that was suppose to be the forefront starters... Bowles is the head coach but all honesty his in put on the offensive side is limited...

so the offensive coordinator, quarterbacks coach, running backs coach, offensive line coach, wide receiver coach and tight end coach have to give in put on what is needed so that the player personnel and scouting department for the draft and free agency can find components for Mike Maccagnan to go out and get to build depth and possible future starters for this team... in the end there is a lot to blame to go around...

The Jets had basically zilcho for talent. If you put crap in, you get crap out. Mac spent all of last offseason shopping on the bargain basement rack. Prior to that what did he do? Draft a lineman that fizzled out? Trade for a guy that was with us for one season and was horrible and still hasn't found a job since being cut by the Jets?

Everyone gets so defensive and wants to instantly disagree with my post. However, you fail to realize I never said it was all Mac and Blowes fault. I don't know whether Steve Marshall is a good coach or not? But it's impossible to tell when you have this kind of talent deficiency. Adrien Clarke was the WORST OL I ever saw. Wes Johnson I would put second. He's HORRIBLE. The last time this OL was any good they had 3 1st round draft choices making up the line. Does this unit have anywhere even close to that now? Brandon Shell is a 5th rounder. Brian Winters is a 4th rounder. Wes Johnson is what? An UDFA? If he was actually drafted somebody got screwed for certain. Kelvin Beachum is an UDFA.

Please tell me WHERE is the investment in this OL?

Wes Johnson was a 5th round pick by Steelers waived to put on practice squad but Jets claimed him...
Brian Winters was a 3rd round pick by us...
Brandon Shell to this point has shown that he is a situational player, not a full time starter (this is all on Steve Marshall)...
There was hope for Brent Qvale to take that next step but yet again Marshall, seemed unable to get Brent to the next level...

James Carpenter was signed by this regime and was at one point in time worth a damn, now he is garbage at best...
Again your knowledge is suspect, Kelvin Beachum drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 7th round...

I never said there was investment on the OL, stated that this OL when Macc got here was stable... so all he had to do was find depth and future pieces to develop...

LT Brick, Signed LG Carpenter, OC Mangold, RG Winters, RT Giacomini were the starters...

so they added UDFA Brent Qvale RT, kept OG Dakota Dozier...

since then they haven't really added proper depth or developmental prospects besides drafting Brandon Shell, signing Jonnathan Harrison, Ben Ijalana and adding a few prospects to the practice squad...

as of now the Jets would do well if they signed a center in free agency either Ryan Jensen (Baltimore) or Russell Bodine (Cincy) to anchor the line...
James Carpenter could be a cap casualty and should be... If they do cut bait on Carpenter they could try Brent Qvale at LG, as he showed potential when stepping in for Winters at RG...
Kelvin Beachum situation is a problematic because of the contract they gave him but since the right tackle position is unstable maybe move him there, there is one other option, cut him...
I agree Brian Winters if he had talent on either side of him maybe he can come back and play at a higher level, maybe...

there is one free agent to watch out for Lions left tackle Greg Robinson could be on our radar...

LT Greg Robinson, LG Brent Qvale, OC Russell Bodine RG Brian Winters RT Brandon Shell

isn't the sexiest but the age and potential could be there if they build that continuity that good o lines develop over time...

Brandon Shell and Greg Robinson are 25.. Qvale, Bodine and Winters are 26...

Find a halfway decent offensive line coach, they can maybe take that next step...

And yes I think Beachum should not be on the roster moving forward...

After 3 years of inferiority and embarrassment with this OL, shopping for Kmart blue light specials to pair with another retread QB???? YES, I do think it's time to start blaming people for why this offense doesn't even have the first semblance of chemistry.

No question this OL needs an infusion of real talent, and MM seems to have a WalMart blue light special philosophy. No arguments there, and it is high time that he starts assembling some building blocks both through FA (Jensen ?) and the draft (Nelson, etc. ?). The funny thing about Marshall is that before last season I recall reading how good a job he had done with such mediocre at best talent. Perhaps that was one scribe's misguided opinion, not sure, regardless MM has some work to do.
