New TOP 10 Mock Draft

1. BROWNS - Sam Darnold, QB, USC
Rosen wants no part of Cleveland. Reportedly the Browns are not crazy about him either. It wouldn't surprise me if they took Mayfield here, but this is the team that drafted Manziel and got burned. Fair or unfair (and I believe its the latter), I can see the Manziel comparisons, including his size, scaring the Browns away from Mayfield, so its Darnold or Allen.

2. GIANTS - Josh Rosen, QB, UCLA
Its no secret Rosen is popping off about Cleveland because he'd love NY where there is a large Jewish population, and I'm sure the Giants love his talent and upside too. There are some concerns about Rosen's maturity and leadership, but no questions about his size and skill. Giants can sit him for a year behind Eli.

3. COLTS - Saquon Barkley, RB, Penn State
A few years ago a RB this high would have been preposterous, but guys like Elliott, Gurley and Fournette have changed all that. Look what all three did for young QB's, how much pressure they took off their young QB's to carry the whole load, and Barkley, who grades out as highly as the aforementioned three, can do likewise for Andrew Luck. Their current starter at RB is a washed up Frank Gore, and there's nothing to speak of behind him either. This is a perfect fit and a no brainer.

4. BROWNS - Bradley Chubb, DE, NC State
Chubb and Myles Garrett can give them one of the most lethal pass rushing bookends in the league, for a long time. Pressuring the QB is the second most important thing in pro football. Obviously first is having a franchise QB of your own. They'll hope thats been settled too with the #1 Pick.

5. BRONCOS - Josh Allen, QB, Wyoming
Yes, there are concerns about his Comp% so it wouldn't surprise me if the Broncos opt for the smaller but more dynamic and accurate Mayfield, but at the end of the day I think Elway takes the guy who reminds him of, well, himself. Of course I'm not suggesting Allen is on Elway's level, that would be absurd, but there are similarities. Like Elway, Allen is a big kid, strong kid with mobility, and most importantly, an absolute cannon for an arm. We're talking rare, Elway'esque arm talent, and that kind of arm strength doesn't grow on trees. When it comes to QB's I think Elway is old school, not interested in smaller and/or new breed QB's like Mayfield you might have to structure a spread offense for. I think he wants a guy who resembles the prototype and reminds him a little of himself.

6. NY JETS - Baker Mayfield, QB, Oklahoma
That said, I still see Mr. Excitement falling into our laps. If I'm wrong and its Allen, I won't shed any tears. Incidentally it wouldn't shock me if Allen goes ahead of Rosen and/or Darnold. If that happens and one of those two slides to us instead, its hard to complain about that either. But right now this is still how I see it falling and I'll be thrilled to snag Mayfield here. This kid threw for a million yards and TD's with a Comp% of +70%, not as a dink and dunk artist, but as a gunslinger and downfield passer. At worse he has drawn comparisons to Johnny Manziel, but at best he has drawn comparisons to Brett Favre and Drew Brees. I think he's closer to the latter because he's way more of a thrower than a runner, despite his mobility. Some people say he's too cocky, but you know what, NOBODY can be cockier than the last and only QB who won a Super Bowl for this wretched franchise.

7. BUCS - Marcus Davenport, ER, UTSA
This kid is drawing comparisons to another small school edge rusher who surprised some people and went this high in the draft, Demarcus Ware. Like Ware, his measurable's are off the charts, and by all indications so is his film. For a long time the Draftniks have been sleeping on this kid, myself included, but from what I'm hearing he's a TOP 10 Pick with terrific size and skill.

8. BEARS - Minkah Fitzpatrick, DB, Alabama
I'm sure they would love to get a potential #1 WR in this spot for Trubisky, and O-line is a real possibility too, but they also have a glaring need to upgrade their defensive backfield and most people are giving Fitz a TOP 5 Grade, so he'll be hard to pass on if he falls to 8 for the Bears.

9. 49ERS - Quenton Nelson, OG, Notre Dame
Now that they stole their potential FQB from the Pats for a 2nd RD Pick, its time to build around him with WR's and OL's. The highest rated of the two at this point appears to be Nelson.

10. RAIDERS - Tremaine Edmunds, OLB, Virginia Tech
The Raiders desperately need to upgrade their linebacking core and Edmunds could be a steal in this spot. Like Devenport, Draftniks appear to have slept on a player the scouts love. My research in recent days suggests Edmunds is routinely viewed as a TOP 10 talent who could be a monster at the next level.

Ham. I honestly believe that the 4 QB's will be taken before or at the 5th pick. There are going to be teams trading up for each of them IMO. Maybe we'll be one them. We will see come Draft time.

Rumor has it the Colts are looking to trade back from the #3 spot.

http://draftanalyst.com/senior-bowl-buzz-thursday

The Indianapolis Colts hope to come out of the offseason with as many as three new linebackers and several cornerbacks. Word in Mobile is that the Colts would be willing to trade out of the third selection in order to accumulate extra draft picks.

If thats true, according to the chart we can swap 1's, give the Colts the first of our two 2's (#37 Overall), and maybe throw in our 4th RD Pick.

We still have a second pick in RD 2, so this only takes us out of the 4th RD.

If we pull the trigger, we are guaranteed to snag one of the top 3 QB's on our board.

Ham, if the board fell that way and we ended up with Mayfield I would be ecstatic.

But let me ask you...... How much stock do you put into Mayfield's learning skills? At Oklahoma due to less than ideal defenses he was playing against he had large windows to throw in. Obviously, that isn't the case in the NFL. I also noticed Mayfield doesn't necessarily put the ball in the most ideal spots? A lot of high passes that the receivers goes up and grabs, whereas it would have been better to hit the receiver in stride, rather than have to jump, so the receiver can get more YAC.

He's going to have to be taught. This much I know. He's going to have to refine a few things....

If I am Mac I don't take any chances and I make the move to get to 2 or 3 whatever the cost!!!

That would be a disaster trade for the Jets if they took the OU child. We need picks.

Would you make this deal to move up for Allen?

I don't think I would make that deal for any of these QB's. I actually wouldn't mind two OL and Rudolph for first 3 picks.

That chart goes out the window when a QB is involved. The value is fluid and changes year to year. Look at recent draft day trades in the first round involving QBs. The Bears moved up 1 spot. 400 pts per the chart but gave up 2 thirds and a 4th 1555 points Eagles gave up first third and fourth and the next year's next first and second to move up from 8 -2. It really only comes into play with later picks. It will cost alot more to move up to the 3rd pick than swapping first, our early second and a 4th. More likely our first second and third this year and next year's first and second or third. There are alot of teams competing for that 3rd pick, the QBs are over hyped so value will be higher this year.
Give up that kind of capital and hit , you have set the franchise back 2-3 years, miss and it's even worse.
This roster has too many holes at premium positions other than QB, on D, OLB ,DE, LB ,
2 CB's on the O WR, RB, G,C,T, possibly TE and QB
That's alot of holes to fill minus 4-5 premium picks and even with the cap space, not all of those positions will be available come Free agency.
The best option is Cousins in FA followed by Bridgewater and a mid round QB.
Look at the young QBs who have found success recently, and look at the rosters they joined. Dak,Wentz,Geoff,Carr, Mariota, all went to teams with complete rosters.

First of all, just to clarify there's NO way Mac is trading up unless it involves getting a QB. He will not trade up for any other reason than that. Second of all, if he does in fact trade up to say #3? Take your pick on who that QB may be? There's a good possibility Mayfield might even be gone by number 3? I doubt it, but it is a possibility. My personal opinion is if Josh Rosen is there at number 3, then he would be my first choice. If not, Mayfield would be my guy.

I also happen to think it would be a good idea if Mac selected another QB in this draft like a Mason Rudolph. Everyone needs to stop living this lie about Hackenberg. Everyone thinks he is an automatic roster spot in 2018. NO ONE should ever be guaranteed regardless of who they are or where they were selected.

And WHAT has Hack done to warrant getting a roster spot? The fact is he's done absolutely nothing. Keeping him on the Jets roster would be all about Mac and his ego. It would be all about Mac saving face about that selection. Instead, they are going to live this charade and dance around the subject of Hack. They have not played him because EVERYONE knows he is terrible. Keeping him on the roster is only compromising the teams ability to compete in games. What if the Jets lose consecutive QB's in 2018? Then they MUST go to the 3rd string QB. How competitive do you really think the Jets will be if they kept Hack over some other crafty veteran or a youngster that they can develop?

I believe we could trade up to #3. Any higher I think we would be mortgaging the farm. I like Darnold and Rosen as day 1 starters and possibly Mayfield. IMO Allen might sit a bit.

mayfield stats bear a resemblance to another Big 12 QB of recent years - Geno himself.

There is a possibility that Andrew Luck's shoulder is a lot worse that the Colts are letting on. They may also be in the running for a QB at #4 if they feel Brissett is not there long term answer

This may drop either Chubb, Barkley, Nelson and Minkah to the Jets. Too me if this happens, Barkley would be a great pick. Of course pending what we do in FA. I would still take Barkley and look for a QB later in the Draft or next year.
