is this the plan?
I would actually go with signing AJ McCarron, now that he is a free agent. He is younger and will cost less. Meanwhile, I'd use one of the second rounders to draft Mason Rudolph. You have a QB for right now in McCarron, you have a good QB to develop in Rudolph, and you still use the #6 overall and a second round pick to improve in other areas.
That's not a bad plan either. We'd have more money to spend on building that unstoppable "O" line that I dream of.
Cleveland seems like the logical landing spot for McCarron, as Hue is very high on him. Instead of having to give up draft picks. as was the case in the "almost" deal, McCarron would only cost a modest amount of money. As for the Jets, I have heard accolades from insiders about his leadership qualities. However, his arm strength is not elite, and I wonder about his viability in the winds of New Jersey, Buffalo, and new England.
Unfortunately, there is no ideal solution this year. Cousins has great stats, except when it comes to actually winning. Each of the top college QBs has at least one red flag. History tells us that two of the "big 4" qbs will be busts. Which two? Absolutely no one know for sure. One thing that I feel confident about is that there would be no debate as to who the top qb prospect is if Mayfield were 6'4' tall. Seventy percent completion rate 2 years in a row, compared to 56 percent 2 years in a row for Josh Rosen. This is quite a large sample size. To me, that trumps height. After all, weren't the two qbs the same height in college as they are now?
The OU kid is definitely the best "college" QB by far. Lots of reasons why. The comp % is crazy good, but those stats are skewed. I think I could throw for 67% vs Big 12 defenses. Another stat we also know is there have been less than 5 Heisman QB's turn out to even be decent in the NFL. College stats mean almost zero in the NFL. Maybe an undersized, weak defense playing, immature douche might buck the trend, but I would not like the Jets to to take that risk.
I made a mistake in my earlier post. I meant to compare Mayfield with Josh Allen of Wyoming. It is Josh Allen who had a 56 percent completion percentage. My central point remains: Josh Allen's completion percentage was abysmal. For some reason, his supporters talk about how poor his receivers were. Why, in Allen's case, aren't the defenses in his conference mentioned? Aren't the defenses in that conference likely as poor as those in the Big 12? It is possible that a QB can become somewhat more accurate over time, but I can't recall a qb with such a poor percentage being picked high in the 1st round in recent years.
So, Tebow, I get that you don't like Mayfield. Are you willing to take a risk on a qb with a 56 percent completion rate? Hey, I love qbs with great arms. Look at my screen name. But the game is different now. Most qbs are over 60 percent, or they don't last long.
First move I would make would be to sign Ryan Jensen. Offer him the chance to come and be the next great center after Mawae and Mangold. He's only 26, so he could be here for years to come. I'd then bring in McCarron, as I think he'll be cheaper than Cousins, he's younger, and he's shown solid ability. But if I land McCarron and not Cousins, I still draft a QB, which is where Rudolph comes in.
The question is, what OL spots outside of C do you target? Is Shell the answer at RT? Beachum is a solid LT if he can stay healthy, but I don't know about long-term. Winters is fine where he is. What about RG? Carpenter, or do you turn the page? I'd draft a young tackle to start at RT, who could be the LT of the future once Beachum is gone. With the right moves, you could have a younger solid starter in McCarron and a good rookie in Rudolph behind a solid OL. I like the WRs as they are, if Enunwa will come back 100%. If not, you have to look at WR. Let Forte walk and either draft a RB mid-rounds to go with McGuire and Powell or sign a younger one on the market. Make those moves, and you have a solid offense for the long term.
If I had that unlimited amount of money, I'd buy the team.
Later
If I had that unlimited amount of money, I'd buy the team.
Later
I can purchase 1/20 of 1% of the team if that helps.
Wouldn't that be something..............a fan owned team.
Even recently this mental midget is tweeting high school kids and talking shit. He just can't keep his mouth shut and that will backfire in NY.
Geez, you are so fixated on Baker Mayfield that you long ago passed irrational regarding him. You make horrible declarative statements about him as a human being, a guy that you have never met in your life, but are willing to believe any negative thing that is spoken and written about him.
Fact: his coaches and teammates at OU adored/adore him, and that could never be the case about any person who was as much of a jerk as you are claiming he is. Guys who spent time with him for the first time at the Senior Bowl also had lots of good things to say about him, things that they say surprised them once they actually started to get to know him as a person.
The tweet you are whining about, and which you made it seem like it was at some young HS kid, was directed at a recruit who will be playing college football next year, who chose Texas, a major OU rival, and tweeted a "promise" that they would beat Oklahoma (and others...). In response, Mayfield tweeted "This is what we call being naive. Kid has no idea what it's like stepping into the Cotton Bowl. So here's how it works… The team north of the Red River doesn't flinch. But it's okay, you'll see for yourself, wish you the best." Oh my goodness gracious, me oh my, what a HORRIBLE tweet and sign of a terrible person... and to think, he had the gall to wish him the best!
The only one talking bleep over here is you.
