Josh Rosen, Baker Mayfield, Josh Allen to throw at NFL combine

The trend of all of the draft's top quarterbacks participating in the throwing portion of the NFL Scouting Combine (March 2-5 on NFL Network) looks like it will continue in 2018.

UCLA's Josh Rosen, Oklahoma's Baker Mayfield and Wyoming's Josh Allen plan to throw at the combine next week, per NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. Oklahoma State's Mason Rudolph revealed in his NFL.com Path to the Draft Diary earlier this week that he will throw at the combine.

That leaves USC's Sam Darnold and Louisville's Lamar Jackson as the top signal-callers that we're waiting to hear from on whether or not they'll throw, but it would be a surprise if anyone opted out at this point.

The last highly touted QBs to elect not to throw at the event are Johnny Manziel and Teddy Bridgewater, who did not throw at the 2014 combine. Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota threw at the combine a year later, and players like Jared Goff, Carson Wentz, Deshaun Watson, Mitchell Trubisky and Patrick Mahomes followed suit last year.

The thinking that a QB is better off waiting until his pro day to throw, when he's working in a more familiar environment with receivers he knows instead of a place like the combine, where there are more variables out of a QB's control, appears to be going extinct.

This year's combine QBs will take the field to throw at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on Saturday, March 3.

I'm looking forward to the combine. The more we observe these guys the more we learn. So far I wouldn't guarantee that any of them are franchise caliber QBs. I just hope that the one we pick will be.

Josh Allen could be the ultimate talent here just b/c of where he played his college ball making him a well weathered QB... As for the other two, questions will come up and their answers better not be robotic in anyway shape or form, as the team's that are in need for QB will dissect the sincerity of their answers... I don't believe there is a franchise guy in this draft, that is why I am hoping for the first time in a long time we trade down to stockpile a plethora of picks to fill needs across the board rather than take BPA...

We should go all in on KC, if we do not get him then we need to re-sign McCown for one year, draft a mid round developmental guy and focus on building this team so next year with the Top 3 that will be there we can choose which one we want and finalize the rebuild of this roster and move on to the next step which is becoming relevant again...

It will be interesting to see which QBs fall to the Jets, if any. I personally think one or two will be there. It will be interesting to see how the Jets rate the QBs. Have they learned anything over the past few years to make them better talent evaluators at this position?

I agree G that there is no "sure thing" QB in this class. I'm also a believer in BPA. There are a couple defensive players at the top of the draft I like: Chubb, Ward and Jackson. Fitzpatrick may be a good player, but he's an Alabama S/CB, and we've seen enough of them already with Millner. I think they could drop a few spots and get one of the CBs, not Chubb. Problem is, this team needs offensive players desperately. On offense, outside of Barkley and the QBs, there is no one worth drafting at the top other than Nelson, a Guard. That's a high pick to spend on a guard, even as talented as he is. So, if the QBs, Chubb and Barkley are gone, the Jets should seriously consider moving back and stockpiling picks if there is a team that wants to move up.

The Giants actually hold the big slot - assuming that Darnold goes number 1, and Barkley #2, then one of the Qbs will be there when the Jets pick unless someone trades up with Indy or Cleveland. If we've taken Cousins, it's irrelevant. There's no way Cleveland is going to trade out of the top slot in the draft. And I don't see the Giants trading with the Jets. Indy might be willing to trade out of their slot. I would only trade up for Barkley or Darnold, and I doubt either will be available when the Colts are on the Board. And if Barkley is there, then the Colts would draft him. If Darnold is there, the Jets should go get him.

If all the offensive players are gone, and Chubb is gone, the Jets should move back if they can. If they can't move back, then take Nelson and rebuild the offensive line. Get a RB in the next round and go from there.

I hope that Jackson throws at the combine. If he shows that he is more accurate than has been previously stated, he will shoot up on draft boards. Let's remember that at this point, Watson was being criticized as being inaccurate also.

I'm guessing that Josh Allen will dazzle at the combine just because he has the strongest arm. He will probably become a very good quarterback some day for the team that drafts him. But I hope like hell it isn't us.

He's a really intriguing talent. His athletic abilities are incredible. The question is, how much work does he need before he can run a pro offense, recognize coverages, and manage a game. Watson I think is different. You could tell he could do those things. With Jackson, it's harder to tell in my opinion. If the Jets didn't sign Cousins, and the Jets feel he can be a franchise QB - they should take him. Who cares what slot you pick the guy. If Jackson goes in the first round to say Arizona, or Buffalo and becomes an All-Pro, the Jets will look foolish. But they have to be convinced he's the guy. They've passed on Watson, Russell Wilson, David Carr, and Mahomes in recent years. Mahomes is still an unknown, but I have a feeling he's going to be a good one.

Point is, the Jets need to get this one right. It doesn't matter to me who it is - Allen, Rosen, Jackson, Mayfield, or Cousins. They just need to find the right guy so this team can move forward. And by the way, I think they should bring McCown back too. He's a great locker room guy, smart and can play the position at a high level until one of these young guys is ready if that's the route they go. If they sign Cousins, they should keep McCown and Hackenberg as their developmental guy. They can draft another one and let them fight it out in training camp.

But if they need to draft a QB, they need to hit a home run.

I've warmed up to Jackson a little more and have him as one of the top 3 QB's. I would prefer Darnold or Rosen, but I would rather have Jackson than the OU child.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Browns takes Barkley at #1 and Indy trades out of #3. Therefore none of the top 4 QB's are there when we pick.
