If, big if, you could guarantee that he would play as well every year for several years to come, he might be worth considering but his cost would be substantial. On the other hand Cousins, who has demonstrated difficulty winning the big games would come at a high cost too and they are interested in him. At least Cousins would fit our system better. Glad I don't have to make this decision because I would probably pass on both as too costly for what we would be getting. I'd bring in two free agency guys, a starter and a back up and draft a future replacement after the supposed cream of the crop QBs are gone. Strengthen the "O" line, add an edge rusher, running back, and corners with the money and draft picks instead.
Ok Gramoah, You have my vote for GM. That is a great plan. Unfortunately, if all that could happen successfully in one off season, then someone other then the cheatahs would represent the AFC in the superbowl at least once in a while.
Here's my 2 cents which probably isn't worth 2 cents:
I agree with Gramoah wants to do above. Except for the QB situation where I'm really not sure what to do.
Some thoughts: Foles first.
We need a qb that is not afraid to stand toe to toe with and beat the cheatahs. Foles not only did this but he did this on the highest stage. And make no doubt about it, and I know because I watched the game 5 times, Foles out played brady. He saw more pressure and made plenty of passes that weren't to wide open guys as brady always has. ( for the record, the cheetahs lost to the Eagles all 5 times that I watched making them 5-8 in superbowls) That said, Foles had a coach that wasn't afraid to lose, with very large balls , that went out and took that win at all costs. Do we have a coach like that,? and even if we did, does that kind of coaching win every week and what happens in NY when it fails a couple weeks in a row. Also the Eagles needed a strip sack of brady, ( by the way, this was the first time in the game that brady was touched at all while he still had the ball up until that point in the game) to win the game. This reinforces what I always say. "Plenty of time wide open" describes just about every brady drop back, but that's another story for another day
So Foles can win the big game and beat the cheatahs. what does that make him worth? Lets just pretend he cost us the #1 pick and lets assume that if we didn't get Foles then our #1 pick would be used on whichever qb is left. Would you rather have Foles or the last qb left who was passed on by 5 other teams? Foles, has a body of work, the other guys are a crap shoot. If you decided Fole was worth the #1 then you have to ask, how much more he is worth then that. I guess I'd have to say a 1 and a 4 are to much for just about anybody right now just because of all the other needs this team has
How about Cousins? For me, I have never watched him play so I can't offer much. I will say this, from what I have read, he generally loses the big game. Is that because of him or because he doesn't have a great team around him. That is the million, or multi-million dollar question. What Cousins has going for him is that he will only cost money not picks
How about the other free agent qb's out there? Like, maybe 1 of the stock pile that the Vikings have? all of these guys would be a big question mark but they would come reasonably cheap.
Or do we draft one? and this is a 2 part question, because we can stay with #6 and hope for the best or we can waste some extra picks and move up. Again, for me, I wouldn't waste any extra picks because of all our holes. I would have a hard time even picking one of these guys at 6 unless I believed he was a sure thing. If Mac takes a qb at #6, his job depends on how good that kid is. and unless we greatly improve the oline, then that #6 pick will most definitely fail
So what the hell should we do? Well...I'm not an NFL GM so how the hell should I know?
I do know, that if a qb has time to write a book in the pocket, that he will most likely also have a receiver that gets open in that much time and then said QB will have a much better chance at success. I don't need to tell you who is the best example of this do I? So, if I'm Mac, unless I believe in one of these qb's in the draft enough to stake my job on it, I would go after Cousins with a contract that allows for a way out if he stinks in 2 years, or go for a Bridgewater or some other free agent who might succeed behind a solid line, and I draft the kid from NJ and Notre Dame to help sure up the oline , search for some other oline help in free agency and make use of the rest of our draft picks to fill some of our other holes and hope for the best
Heck, it's all a crap shoot any way. roll the dice and hope for the best. You can't do much worse then what this team has done for years. How many of us had Foles outplaying brady in the superbowl? You just never know
