Could Teddy Bridgewater be this year’s Mike Glennon?

If a “handful” of teams envision quarterback Teddy Bridgewater as a starter, an important caveat possibly applies. Assuming that, after free agency opens, a team without a No. 1 quarterback signs Bridgewater to a contract with terms that necessarily put him at the top of the depth chart, it’s possible that he’ll be supplanted by a first-round rookie once the draft arrives.

That would make him this year’s Mike Glennon, the presumptive starter in Chicago at $15 million a year, until the Bears moved from No. 3 to No. 2 in the draft and selected Mitchell Trubisky. While Glennon was indeed the Week One starter, it was only a matter of time until he ended up being sent to the bench for Trubisky.

Of course, any opportunity to play for Bridgewater would be better than none. Even if his stint at the top option is short-lived, whatever reps he receives as the top guy in the offseason, training camp, preseason, and regular season will help him convince others that maybe he should get a chance in 2019. For that reason, he should be inclined to sign a one-year contract only, ensuring that he’ll be able to hit the market again next year, if the team that signs him ends up drafting a rookie to take over.

Even with the possibility of being rendered irrelevant for a rookie, the handful of teams would seem to consist at the very most of the Jets, Browns, Broncos, and Cardinals. No one else would install him as the top guy. And, again, on each of those rosters, he’d be susceptible to being rendered irrelevant by a rookie.

If Cousins chooses the Vikes, Bridgewater would be a nice addition backing up McCown. While one of the QB's we pick in the Draft can carry a clipboard till he is ready. Adios Hack!!

Agree. If we draft a QB at 6, McCown and Bridgewater should be 1 and 2 for 2018. Then we let Teddy B and Mayfield (or whoever) battle it out in 2019.

I like it when people agree with me, although, depending on what happens in training camp, I'd start Bridgewater and number 2 McCown. Bridgewater was really quite good before his injury and if he shows that he can be that guy again he will likely become the starter.

That’s fine. Bridgewater as #1 is even better if he can prove he’s 100% healthy and ready to go. He’s been rehabbing for quite a while. There’s still some question as to whether or not he’ll be the same player after that injury. That was a terrible knee injury he suffered.

And..............he hasn't had any significant play time since then. But, if it's truly like riding a bicycle and he's healthy he could be a boost to our offense.

If Bridgewater is or Cousins are signed, McCown will not be back. It will be FA, Hack, Petty or draft pick.
Not saying that is what should be, but Mac is not signing 2 FA QBs and he has not given up on Hack.

I like Teddy. He is a leader with class. I would take him over Cousins if healthy. I think he would be a great fit for a WC offense. People mention he could be a stop gap. He is going to be 26 and if healthy he has a long time left. I like this kid and hope his career gets back on track.

We’ll find out soon. The media are 100% convinced that Hackenberg is done. A complete bust.

But Macc has spoken differently about him. He acknowledged that he’d take time to develop. This will be interesting to see the QB depth chart on Sept 1st.

I think Petty will be gone for sure and that they will hang on to Hack for one more season just to see if he can finally figure out the mental aspect of the game. I know that bringing in McCown to back up Bridgewater would be a stretch, as Tony mentioned 2 free agent QBs would be unusual even for the Jets, but we need a reliable back up for Bridgewater because of his injury history. I don't think they would trust Hack or the new draftee to that duty.

In my opinion I think Keemun Is the one who will be a flop. He reminds of Fitzpatrick. Gets the most of his abilities but hasn’t been good, then got lucky and had an amazing year.

Mark Sanchez Syndrome: surround him with a great supporting cast (2009-10), and you’ll be fooled into believing that he’s the Answer.

Sanchize!!! Lol.

You may be right about Keenum. Even the head coach in Minnesota brazenly said “Which Case Keenum is going to show up next year? We just don’t know. There are questions we have”.

I would stay away from Keenum - reminds me a lot of Fitz career year

Is Bridgewater truly healthy? wonder whether he would take a two year show me contract?

Yea he’s healthy. He was ready to play for Minnesota last year but they didn’t put him in bc Keenum was playing well
