if this is true bring me Teddy Bridgewater and re-sign Josh McCown... Regardless of the draft, we can focus elsewhere with our top picks... The debatable response will be to keep or cut Christian Hackenberg this year...

I definitely don't know what the F I want anymore. Seriously, I'm clueless and being a lifelong fan, like the rest of you, I just have the feeling that no matter what we do, it'll bite us in the arse.

just remember Caplan was reporting for the Vikings since Childress days so if he is stating this it is more than likely a fact... now who knows could be wrong and it is his perception of what and where they should be...

Well, there may be legitimacy to this. It seems to make sense. Minnesota is the obvious choice based on numerous factors (geography, playoff contention, comparable money, etc). Don La Greca made the best point about this whole situation the other day. He said if the only incentive for Cousins to come to the Jets is money, is it really a good fit for either Cousins or the Jets? That shouldn’t be the only reason for him to come to NY. He has to want to bring a championship to NY, want the pressure, and have thick skin when the inevitable criticism comes in this market.

And for what? An extra 3-5 million per year that the Jets will offer him?

He’s going to the Vikings.

Go after Bridgewater, he's 25 and was an ascending player before the injury. You can probably sign him AND McCown for what it'll cost to sign Cousons, and have some change to boot.
Don't even entertain Cousins, that'll just drive up the price and he'll pick Minny, leaving the Jets QB less when these other clubs grab their guy from the get go.

why not talk with cousins and seem enthused if that raises his price and spends another team's money?

The Jets cannot get through this offseason without Kirk Cousins. If he indeed goes to Minnesota, the Jets are screwed.

None of the top QBs will be there when we pick.

1. Browns - Barkely
2. Giants - Darnold
3. Bills via trade - Rosen
4. Browns - Allen
5. Broncos - Mayfield
6. Jets?

how about offering cousins a generous take it or leave it one time deal instead??

in that scenario, the franchise & fan base can save face regardless of who cousins signs with?? hell, even if he signs with us..

...he's not signing with us..

This is the worst case scenario, but completely possible. The Bills aren’t trading Tyrod Taylor and accumulating boatloads of draft picks just for shits and giggles. They have their eyes on someone, and quite possibly a young QB in this draft. They have the draft capital to pull something off, too.

I’m not buying the idea that Rosen and Mayfield are going to slide all the way to Miami or Arizona. There’s going to be a big run on QB’s, and if Macc doesn’t move up, we might get caught with our pants down... with Minkah Fitzpatrick or Quentin Nelson as our options at #6.

And a Josh McCown/Teddy Bridgewater QB situation.

That’s not going to be good enough, IMO.

How do the Bills get to 3? I don't see Indy (or anyone in the top 5) dropping past 10 or 12, even for two in the 20s.

Grab Chubb or Nelson and sign Bridgewater for probably less than Cousins will make per game. Bring back McCown and keep getting solid players. I don't care if we don't get Cousins. Give him one offer and then move on. No need to panic. And we might hit with Bridgewater on a 2 year deal.

Easy. They have 2 first round picks, 2 second round picks, and 2 third round picks.

And they just traded their starting QB.

It’s time for the Jets to start taking the QB issue more seriously. Cousins is an above average QB who can take a team deep into the playoffs with a supporting cast. He’s for real. But he’s also going to Minnesota for obvious reasons. He wants a fat diamond ring. And he’ll get it with the Vikings as they’re currently constructed.

Bridgewater is still a mystery. He could be a franchise QB if the knee holds up. But the Jets cannot afford to pass up the opportunity to grab the QB they really want. If that’s Darnold, do whatever you have to in order to move up and grab him. If it’s Rosen, same thing. Don’t sit by and watch other teams jump past you and grab the guy you think can deliver this team a championship.

Just MHO.

Bills would have to pony up both 1st rounds, 1 2nd this year a 1st next year along with one of the two 3rd they have this year and would just be enough for the Colts to take it.

Bills have 2 1sts, 2 2nds, 2 3rds in this draft but they won't have to give it all up to move up..

That’s awfully steep so maybe they don’t do that

Would you go to 21 if you were Indy? They need to get a day 1 impact player at a position of need. They're not getting that at 21.

I look it at like this:

1. Cleveland Browns -- Josh Allen
(Tyrod Taylor bridge QB that will allow the Browns to develop someone with all the tools)

2. New York Giants -- Saquon Barkley
(the deal is if Barkley falls from first Giants believe having that run game will allow Manning to extend his career by 3 to 5 years)

3. Indianapolis Colts (Trade) Buffalo Bills -- Baker Mayfield
(fits perfectly in what Bills want to do on offense)
cost may not be steep maybe Colts willing to take 2 1st '18 and 1st & 2nd '19

4. Cleveland Browns -- DB Minkah Fizpatrick could use that hybrid defensive back to play in the slot and step out into center field

5. Denver Broncos -- Josh Rosen
(John Elway won't pass up on Rosen who is more accurate then any QB on his roster and can start day one)

6. New York Jets (Trade) Arizona Cardinals -- Sam Darnold
(Jets lose out on Cousins but turn to plan B where they could be in the sweepstakes to get Rudolph or Jackson with additional picks)
Darnold won't fair well on the east coast.

with the Jets moving back to 15 still have the option to get a player like WR Calvin Ridley, Alabama, NT Vita Vea, Washington, ER Marcus Davenport UTSA, MLB Roquon Smith, UGA or OG Willy Hernandez, UTEP

acquiring in that trade down we could receiver 2 2nd Rd Picks (1 in '18 & 1 in '19) including a 5th in '18.
this would give us fire power to move up or stand pat in the 2nd round with three picks to make things happen.

1 2nd could be used on RB Sony Michel or Rashaad Penny
1 2nd could be used on QB Lamar Jackson or Mason Rudolph
1 2nd could be used on CB Quenton Meeks or Isaiah Oliver

other options could be the dropped stock of OG/OC Billy Price from OSU or TE Hayden Hurst from South Carolina

There are a lot of scenarios especially right now pre free agency but right now this could be a solid scenario that works for us in many ways...

I don't think three rich kids that like the game of football but clearly don't need it would make good franchise options for us. Opening the door for a kid like Lamar Jackson who will play with a chip on his shoulder could be a steal. Even if we have to move up back into the first we have a third to make that happen.

I think the Edge guy, Chubb, would be a solid pick. Even the ND Guard, Nelson, would be a position of need for Indy. They need to keep Luck upright.

But if Buffalo offers them a huge return for that 3rd pick, that’s gotta be a consideration for them. Buffalo could give them a ton of high picks, and in return, get the QB they want.

Win win.

If the Giants don’t draft a qb at #2 then they made a mistake. They are almost never in the lottery, now that they are they must take their next QB. RBs are easier to find than franchise Qb. I think the Giants draft QB, Oline and RBs this draft.

If the "top 4" are gone (this post was a response to that scenario), then this is a great Plan B. And then move up into the later part of round 1 and draft Mason Rudolph for the future.
I could live with that.
And the gmf post quoted immediately above this isn't bad, either.
