class of 2004, 1st round wasn't so bad either.
#1) Eli Manning
#4) Phillip Rivers
#10) Ben Roethlisberger
getting the third QB in a draft heavy QB class isn't always the worst thing.

Although beating the Jaguars in OT and beating the Chiefs in the last seconds of the game were thrilling and great at the time, i knew it would end up costing draft capitol heading into the draft.

You cannot compare Hackenberg and Petty selections with this opportunity. This is a whole different ballgame. Those two picks were Macc 1) really taking a leap with Hackenberg even though most disagreed, and then 2) taking a 4th round prospect with a chance to stick as a backup.

We have an opportunity now to get a FRANCHISE QB. Something we haven’t had in like....when? Ever? Namath? Macc set the immediate future with Bridgewater and McCown for 2018. For 2019 and beyond, the youngster gets the right amount of time to get acclimated.

The more I think about it, this is better than getting Cousins. This is how good football teams are built.

Bravo, Maccagnan.
Agreed, this is a totally different universe than Hack and Petty. This is taking a crack at a legit, blue chip, FQB prospect in the TOP 3

Its virtually unanimous that this class has 4 blue chip QB prospects at the top, now we're in a position to at least have two of the four to choose from.

Tremendously exciting.

It seems like some fans want it both ways. They want to criticize Maccagnan for whiffing on Hackenberg, but then say “you better get this right!” when he shows some stones and gives up some serious draft capital to attempt to put this team in the upper echelon of the league.
If you don't already have a FQB, you don't quit trying until you find one, cause in this league, without one, you are essentially the Washington Generals.

The teams with the FQB's, OTOH, are the Harlem Globetrotters.

For those too young to understand the reference, the Generals were the designated punching bags for the Globetrotters in their traveling circus.

Good to see you in high spirits Ham. You’ve already forgotten about the Honey Badger!

You mean we will actually take an Offensive player with our 1st Rd pick? Yes! Miracles do exist....

Yup but that's once in 50 years and Rivers has yet to win a superbowl... and yup those couple wins cost us dearly.

maybe I'm wrong but I still think a Qb is available at #6. 4 QB's have never been drafted in the top 6, so it's pretty good odds

hey, hopefully it was a great decision.

Don't be surprised if we pick a defensive linemen. These guys all just think we are picking a QB. this is the Jets remember. It could be a punter

This was a bold move. I give Mac a lot of credit for it. Totally lifted my spirits.

This is probably the best QB class at the top since 2004 (kudos to McJet), and now we are right in the mix to pounce on one of these QB's.

Wow, Cimini actually praises the Jets move

Shocking!

And as an added plus, he tells us his league sources are telling him the Jets love three QB's in this draft, thats why they were content to trade up to 3, and the three QB's he's hearing that Mac loves are (drum roll please) ... Sam Darnold, Josh Rosen and Josh Allen ... of course he could be wrong, but his sources are telling him those are their three guys, and Mac has all three ahead of Mayfield.

If they pick Allen after all that, I will hurl.
They probably could have him at #6.
And he's not even that good.
Hack part deux.

My guess is the Giants trade out with the Bills. Darnold 1 Allen 2 (Bills) Rosen to the Jets. Bills need to jump Denver for Allen. If the Giants keep #2 then Darnold, Barkley (Giants) Rosen to the Jets. Its obvoius.... I want Rosen lol

I have my concerns about all of these QB's. IMO there are no super blue chippers in the bunch, you can pick something you don't like about all of them, but at the same time, all four are legit, blue chip, FQB prospects, including Allen. What makes Allen so intriguing is his size and arm. To say this kid has a strong arm is an understatement. This kid has rare arm talent, similar to, oh say, a young John Elway ... but he also threw two beautiful touch passes for TD's in the Senior Bowl, two of the most perfect touch passes for TD's I have ever seen, NFL included, so he showed he is about more than just throwing rockets. YES, the Comp% definitely concerns me, but make no mistake about it, this kid has an enormously high ceiling.

This I could live with.

I'm surprised to see this done now and not just agreed in concept - subject to execution on draft day

But, maybe you get the pick for less now than if you wait to be sure the guy you want is there - and you avoid risk of being overbid......

hefty price - this is pushing the chips into the table

and note - this trade is GREATLY helped by what they did in free agency - they addressed gaping needs so they can give up the 2nd round picks that otherwise would have been essential to fill those holes

For most teams I would say that is true. This is the Jets and this regime has already proven they can't draft the right QB. They better get this right or it will set them back many years unless Teddy B gets back to form. I will be happy if they get the right QB, but I know there is a better than 50% chance they won't.

Petty was a 4th round pick, so chances were slim he would amount to much. The Hack pick stings, but only because we have not had a legit QB ahead of him. Almost every franchise misses on multiple QB picks but when you have Rodgers, Big Been etc starting. It goes unnoticed.
I was in favor of Cousins. Then personally would have traded back, added an extra first next year and pics this year, but if the FO has a QB they love, I'm all in. If Mac hits, he will be considered a top GM. If he misses, his career is pretty much over, so he must be very confident.
The good thing is, there will be plenty of cap space next year to make up for the lost picks.
Big gamble, let's hope it pays off
