YES, I would definitely sign Manziel

IMO he didn't fail because he lacked the talent to play and win in the NFL, he failed because he self-destructed as a human-being.

That said, at his age a lot of people are self destructive, and know I was, but sometimes people actually STOP being their own worst enemy.

Would I bring him in and give it a shot?

Sure, why not, its not like it will cost big money, but I would still draft a QB at #3 too.

As for who goes out, IMO our entire current stable of QB's are bad to mediocre, so there's a lot of guys we can cut to keep Manziel if he's cleaned up his act.

Also we don't even know if Bridgewater will ever recover from that horrific injury. So far it doesn't sound too promising.

For the record, I looked for a Manziel thread and didn't see one.

If there already is one and I missed it, by all mean please feel free to merge this thread with the existing one.

Oh for fucks sake now I know you are crazy.
Thats not an argument, its an ad hominem.

What did I say that wasn't true?

He was a first round pick because people believed he had the talent to play and win in this league. He didn't fail because anyone was right or wrong about his talent, he failed because he never even gave himself a chance to succeed, because he was a drunk who self destructed.

Lastly, if he's clean and sober now (and sometimes people do clean up their act), it won't cost us anything to give him another shot.

If it doesn't workout you cut him and it will cost you practically nothing, so why not give it a shot? He's still only 25 years old.

Now you want two douchey QB's. And Manziel is even shorter than the midget you want to draft. Those two would be hammered every night in NYC.

The question is, what do we have to lose?

Seriously Tebow, can you tell me what we have to lose?

We're talking about a backup here and still drafting a potential FQB at #3, so thats not even an issue.

The question is, which current backups are you afraid of losing in the event that Manziel has sincerely cleaned up his act?

Petty? SUCKS

Hack? SUCKS

McCown? 39 Years Old

Bridgewater? Suffered the most horrific injury since Joe Theisman, and that injury ended Theisman's career, even Bridgewater doesn't know if he's done or not.

So what do we have to lose by giving it a shot? It won't even cost any real money either.

I can't believe I'm about to say this. I would rather have Baker Mayfield. Manziel is a college QB. He is not NFL caliber. Although you could put Baker on Johnny's shoulders and you would at least have a QB almost as tall as Josh Allen and finally they will see what a real QB sees.

Seriously this team does not need another polarizing QB. I'm hoping this organization is trying to build a culture with high character guys. Manziel has never been high character. And Baker is highly questionable. QB's can't be questionable.

Then how do you explain him being a first round pick?

Who drafts a QB in the first round who is not even an NFL caliber QB?

Even the Browns are not that stupid.

I'll say it again, Manziel didn't fail because of talent, he failed because he was a drunk who self-destructed as a human-being.

That said, he's still only 25 and "sometimes" people actually do stop being self-destructive. Not always, but sometimes people do.

Well if thats the case, if he's just pulling an act and still the same fool who flushed his career down the toilet, then you cut him and it didn't cost you anything.

How do you explain Ryan Leaf? Jamarcus Russell? Tim Tebow? Or any of the busts drafted in the 1st round that weren't NFL caliber QB's. Manziel wasn't lighting up the league and then all of a sudden fell of the wagon.

I just don't see what we have to lose. I look at our current collection of QB's, and I see a pile of junk.

I could see if Manziel was old and/or costly, but he's 25 and would probably get close to the league minimum, so it would cost nothing to cut him.

And again, I look at what we currently have and I feel like I'm looking at a garbage dump for old, injured or sucky QB's

Well fuck why don't we bring in Kaepernick too?? At least he had success in the NFL.

Honestly, he's probably better than every QB on our roster too, other than the guy we pick at #3

That said, we all know why no team wants him around, the guy is toxic, and unlike Manziel he's convinced he did nothing wrong and is just being unfairly persecuted, so there's no chance that he's seen the light, so to speak. Heck, a lot of people agree with him too, I GET THAT, but a lot don't and that threatens the bottom line (MONEY) for any team that signs him. You can have a problem with that or not, doesn't matter what you or I think, you're not the one who owns a team and doesn't think its a good idea to alienate half of his potential customers.

So far this off season you have wanted Suh, Manziel and Baker. Maybe we could pickup Josh Brown at kicker and trade for Burfect as well. OJ is available too.

I'm not sanctimonious about football, Tebow, I'm practical. I understand that most of the players in the NFL come from tough environments, these are not choirboys. I also understand that young men are going to sometimes engage in reckless behavior off the field, particularly if they are rich and famous. I also understand that this is a collision sport played by aggressive and violent men, especially on defense. I also understand that nobody is irredeemable, the guys who mature and get their priorities in order tend to have longer careers than the guys who don't. Namath is a perfect example. I know injuries contributed to his shortened career, but so did the fact that the party never ended. A lot of people don't realize this, they celebrate Mickey Mantle as one of the all-time greats, but Mantle had a lot of regrets about his career. He truly believed he could have been the best ever if he took better care of himself. One time in a brilliant moment of epiphany, BEFORE HE GOT SICK, he pointed to Stan Musial and told a sportswriter friend; "Stan was a better player than me. Know why? Cause he was a better man."

He admired Musial because Musial didn't party and got every ounce out of his God-given ability, whereas Mantle knew that he didn't.

That said, I'm glad we drafted Namath, or we'd have ZERO Super Bowls in fifty years, and I know the Yankees are glad they signed Mantle.

I don't want arch criminals and thugs on my team, but I understand most people are flawed. Its a BIG LEAP from Baker, Suh and Manziel, to OJ and Josh Brown.

Well I'm glad you aren't the GM of the Jets. There are plenty of good to great players with high character. Why settle for the trash of the league??
