Rounds 3-7

We pretty much know what we have for 2018 pre-draft. What should Mac focus on in these rounds?

Offensive Line - A MUST. If we get a guy like Frank Ragnow or Mason Cole, we have a legit backup center for this year and a starter for 2019. Long can then move to guard and we can let Winters/Carpenter go. That frees up a lot of additional cap space. Nab a guy like Branden Smith in the fourth round and Mac get let both of the current starters go while getting younger and more athletic. Unless there's a project that Mac has identified the LT of the future will be a 2019 get.

OLB - Mac doesn't have a great record in this area. Jenkins is a decent run stopper but doesn't put pressure on the QB. Mauldin is a complete unknown at this point. To take the next step this teams needs to find better-than-average starters in the third and fourth round. Obo Okoronko is another potential third round LB. Mac needs to get this done this year.

TE - Can't imagine Mac intends to go with the three TE currently on the roster. A mid-round pick is likely.

CB - Unless someone too good to pass us is sitting there I don't expect Mac wants to use another pick on a corner.

WR - Not at this point.

DL - Entire possible but not as critical.

RB - Mac may be hoping for a guy like Rashaad Penny to be there in the third round. There are a lot of possible names to take in rounds 4 or 5.

If I had my druthers we would nab an OLB in round 3 and a C/G in round 4. Or the other way around.

If the past is any indication, we have gotten players like Lorenzo Mauldin and Brian Winters with 3rd round picks.

Those two are still on the roster. And we’re already talking about replacing them. I don’t think we’re finding immediate solutions with our 3rd and 4th round picks.

I like C/G Frank Ragnow in the 3rd Rd to eventually be our Center of the future. I have never cared for Brian Winters as he gets injured too much.Lorenzo Mauldin showed promise his first year but has disappeared ever since. I am hoping to trade back into the 3rd Rd with our 4th,6th,7th picks and pick up an OL or BPA.

I believe our line is serviceable, but upgrades should be considered soon. If we’re putting Rosen/Mayfield/Allen back there, we need a good o-line to keep him upright.

Spencer Long and Brandon Shell are probably long term guys. Winters will be under contract for a few more years. But Beachum and Carpenter are expiring soon.

The team should consider a 1st round LT next year. We need another...Blindsided’brick.

I've known from prior posts that you think the Oline is serviceable with depth. We barely upgraded the Oline in FA. Granted there was not much out there. I hope we can trade up into the 2nd Rd an grab a decent OL. Somebody who can take charge of the OL like Mangold did.

Greg Little is the guy to watch for the 2019 draft.OT from Ole Miss. Might just be the guy your hoping for.

Ragnow would be a great pick if he were to fall to the 3 rd.
Why did you leave out the 5th round pick? Just curious.

I watched him play twice this year. What I noticed most is that he is a really big guy and was difficult to get out of position. He must be well over 6 feet and at least 300 pounds.

I think he is down to around 320lbs. He was 340 as a freshman. 6ft6. Kid is a monster.

I would like at least 4 picks (1st, 3rd, 3rd 5th).

I get it. I'm hoping Mac doesn't play the trade down game like last year but he may. Looking like he is using this off season to add depth and position the team for next off season. Plenty of cap space, and hopefully a FQB.

If he does trade down after getting into a position where he can grab a QB there might be a huge drop in ticket sales this season and I would think that has to be on the minds of the front office.

I'm sure he's grabbing a QB at 3. I was referring to the later rounds. Even with all the free agent signings, I think next year will be when we see a marked improvement both in talent and production. The QB will be key in luring quality FAs, the young players from 16,and 17 Should be hitting their stride.
Mac has held to his blueprint for building through the draft and when you get into mid/late rounds, 5,6&7 your adding depth and developmental guys, can't hurt to add a couple of extras at that point.
We're still a year away with alot of maybes on the roster.

At least, but we've made a good start during free agency and hopefully will add some real talent along with that relevant QB during this years draft. With plenty of projected cap space for next year we should be seeing a greatly improved team for that season. We are definitely moving towards that objective.

Johnson , Long, Williamson and Crowell we're good signings and definite upgrades. The rest are fillers. Hopefully one or 2 stick but all one year deals or 1 year with an option / or no guarantees after year one. I think guys like Mayowa or Swanson could still be signed. Swanson could be cheap and allow Long to move around the line, maybe take Carpenters spot and Mayowa would be a situational pass rusher
Every thing rests on getting it right at 3 though.
No pressure Mac, it's just your career and legacy on the line ...

Am I the only one who thinks it's ironic (or sad) that after we FINALLY broke the second round curse (Marcus Maye) Mac has traded all of our second round picks for the foreseeable future???

I understand your thought process and it might turn out that this is the case, ...but...., good quarterbacks don't come cheap. With that in mind, IF Mac picks us a QB that turns out to be very good or better yet a franchise quarter back, it will be well worth the price. If he fails in that endeavor then let the wrath of Khan be upon him for squandering away those picks.

This is the most significant offseason for the Jets, well, maybe ever. It is reasonable to think we can get to 8-9 wins, have our QB in place and have a sprinkling of good players particularly on defense. However, in order to finish the job Mac needs to hit on rounds 3-5. He needs to get a starting center, if not for this year, then for next. He needs to get more pieces on the OL, most importantly LT. He needs to find a pass rusher and a running back.

It's in these rounds that good teams become dynasties. We need to see big steps from Stewart ('17, rd 3) and Hansen ('17, rd 4). Relying on high first round picks and free agents are not going to get us where we need to be.

I’ve been reading some recent mocks that have TE Haden hurst and or Goedert being available round 3. Either of these guys would be a huge pickup for us , and both were once projected high second rounders. Slippage more to do with guys like the penn state TE and andrews rising along w strong depth and many positions versus them truly sliding..

i also see orlando brown , once projected top 15 overall, is now looking at a 3-4 round grade . He’s a guy I’d also be fine taking a chance on , probably not a LT but could become an elite guard .
