Marty Mornhinweg, the New York Jets' offensive coordinator for the past two seasons, was named the new quarterbacks coach for the Baltimore Ravens on Wednesday.
Mornhinweg, 52, replaces Rick Dennison, who will follow Gary Kubiak to the Denver Broncos. Mornhinweg joins the Ravens one day after the team hired Marc Trestman as their offensive coordinator. He has a strong connection with Ravens coach John Harbaugh, spending five years (2003-07) as part of the same staff with the Philadelphia Eagles.
"Marty's got a great history and background with the offense we were running last year and what Marc is going to build on this year," coach John Harbaugh said. "He's a great quarterback teacher of fundamentals, footwork, reads and quarterback mechanics. I'm really excited about that. Marty's a great coach. He's going to be a great addition for us. I know he'll work really well with Marc and work really well with Joe [Flacco]."
While Mornhinweg has worked with Harbaugh and Ravens offensive line coach Juan Castillo, this will be his first time being on the same staff as Trestman.
"This is all going to be part of a formula to continue to play at a high level offensively and continue to get better," Trestman said.
Mornhinweg will be Flacco's sixth quarterbacks coach in what will be his eighth NFL season. Flacco is coming off his best season, setting career highs with 3,986 passing yards and 27 touchdowns.
