With the Draft 4 days away, here's why I'm NOT feeling nervous

I have my favorite QB's like we all do, of course I'll be ecstatic if we take one of my TOP 2, Mayfield or Allen, particularly Mayfield.

BUT, having said that, I see a legit FQB ceiling in all four of these QB's and I know, at the very least, we're gonna have our choice of two of them, maybe 3 if the Giants take Barkley which sounds like a real possibility.

Just knowing that gives me comfort and has me an a relaxed state of mind, so much more than had we remained at 6 and the real risk of losing all four existed.

That trade from 6 to 3, while costly, has put me in so much more of a relaxed state of mind, and made me so much more excited about Thursday.

I don't know who we're taking, but whoever it is I'm gonna be happy, and optimistic, unless and until he gives me a real reason not to be.

So we give up three #2 picks which could have (pessimistically) given us two solid starters in order to take a guy who is mocked to go in mid-round? Another Jetsy move. I would have accepted either of these with the #6, but with what we have given up I want one of the blue chip guys, Darnold, Rosen or Barkley.

All you can do is hope we picked the right guy. Nobody knows at this point. I’m not going to rush to judgment regardless. It’s bad enough that the media will jump all over the guy the first time he throws an INT.

Patience is going to be needed, too. Something I wonder if this fan base has.

No, I'm not feeling nervous.
Nervous isn't the right word for how I feel.
Until Mac shows us he knows how pick a good quarterback, I'm scared shitless.

question??

what is your level of patience you would hope our fan base should have waiting 5 decades for another franchise QB??

mind you, i'm asking about being patient with this regime?? how long would you be willing to watch this regime shit the bed with what will be the face of the franchise going forward??

i'm not 15 years old anymore.. haven't been in quite some time..

i don't feel obligated to watch yet another incompetent regime continue to stumble around in the dark ****ing up any chance the next kid could be the guy!!

my patience, much like my lifespan is not infinite.. is yours??

Worst case scenario, the Jets will have their choice of two top-end projected QBs. Best case scenario, they'll have their choice of four.

I guarantee half of the fan base will be doing cartwheels Thursday night, the other half will be ready to take torches and pitchforks to Florham Park. That is the case no matter who they pick.

Mocked to go in mid-round? Where? Mayfield is top 5 in almost every mock draft I have seen, and in all of the ones that I could take seriously. And pretty much every football person agrees that if you end up getting a genuine franchise QB, the price you paid to get there matters not at all. So all Mac needs to do is pick a real FQB here...

you make it sound like this would somehow be an exclusively jet fan base reaction..

It wouldn't.. obviously..

Oh, no. Every fan base has its hardcore partisans and its eternal pessimists.

The Jets may be different because almost 60 years has cemented a fanbase's love for the team, and the frustrations of a golden anniversary since a Super Bowl has reinforced the pessimism. The partisanship may be even stronger among Jets fans.

I went back and looked at a few and Mayfield is in the top 5 because everyone is tipping the Jets to take him. Which is a kind of self-fulfilling prophecy. :global (46):

I have seen other teams projected to take him in those top 5 picks. And his accuracy rate, especially on the long ball, make him that highly touted a prospect.

I don’t view any of these QB’s, except for maybe Rosen, as plug in and play from day one. Unless these guys legitimately win the starting job, then they don’t start right away just because of their draft pick position. This requires patience. The reality is, whoever we draft may not start until next season. Throwing a 22 year old kid into that position from day one, with some rare exceptions, is usually not a wise thing to do.

not sure how i could have made my point any clearer, my issue with patience is with the regime & not with what QB we draft at 3..

i don't give a shit how adverse bowles is to playing young QBs.. when this one is ready to see the field, play him & don't look back.. or promote someone this season who's not just open to the idea of starting the kid just as soon as he's ready to go but someone who can actually help the kid to reach his potential..

Two of the publications that I respect the most are Pro Football Focus and Our Lad's Guide. As written in yesterday's NY Post. both have Mayfield as their top rated QB. By the way, the year Hack was drafted, PFF said that he was "undraftable." For the record, I don't have the expertise to know which QB we should take. My gut will tell me how I feel when the pick is announced. I think that my choices line up Darnold, Mayfield, Rosen, Allen. None of them is perfect, but I have faith that Mac will make the right choice. Why? What other choice do we have? These are professional scouts making the choice. Clearly, this board will be on fire Thursday night.

Exactly, thats what people don't understand. Every time I try to emphasize his +70 Comp%, invariably someone will post a list of sucky QB's who also had a high Comp%, completely ignoring the fact that EACH TIME I praise Mayfield's Comp%, I am careful to point out that he has also thrown more downfield passes than any of these QB's too. THAT'S what makes his Comp% special, not just his Comp% in a vacuum, but that he did it as a downfield passer, not a dink and dunk artist, which is normally associated with QB's who have a higher than normal Comp%

In many ways these two things should be antithetical. You shouldn't have the highest Comp% of these QB AND be the most consist downfield passer of the bunch too, but the analytics have been done and this kid is BOTH, and thats what makes him a special QB prospect.

Then you add in 46 or 47 TD's to 6 INT's in 2017 and you're like, okay, this kid is special.

Parcells used to say; "I judge QB's by how often they get their team in the end-zone, and DON'T give the ball to the other team."

Yes, and you also suggested that we draft a QB and build the entire offense around one player. I sure hope you understand patience because that’s gonna take about 3-4 more years.

But that’s perfect for all the Bowles/Macc detractors. Then we can run another regime outta town and continue the process of changing coaches every 3-5 years like most losing teams do.
