The Packers have had a deep bench in the personnel department in the past, but some of that is scattering now.

According to Michael Cohen of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Packers scout Alonzo Dotson is taking a jobin the Jets scouting department.

It has been an offseason of change for the Packers front office, beginning with new General Manager Brian Gutekunst taking over for longtime G.M. Ted Thompson.

Then former Packers employee John Dorsey took Alonzo Highsmith and Eliot Wolf with him to Cleveland.

Changes in NFL personnel departments are the norm this time of year, with employees shuffling after the draft.

Other than coming from a usually winning organization I don't know what he brings to the table that is better than what we have but you're right it's shuffle the personnel time of year.

Dotson came to Green Bay from the University of Houston, where he worked with defensive quality control. For two seasons, he was responsible for assisting the defensive staff with administrative duties, working with the defensive line and linebackers, coordinating the offensive scout team, identifying opposing personnel packages and directly assisting the defensive coordinator/linebackers coach.

During his two-year tenure, the Cougars finished 18-8, including a perfect 12-0 regular season in 2011. Houston went on to defeat Penn State in the TicketCity Bowl, finishing the year with 13 wins, the most in school history.

In 2012, Dotson helped the Cougars defense finish second in Conference USA in turnovers (31), interceptions (19) and sacks (36) and fourth in pass defense efficiency (125.3). He worked with the linebackers group that included senior Phillip Steward, a 2012 first-team All-Conference USA selection, who was with the St. Louis Rams during the 2014 preseason. Steward finished ninth in the country with 128 tackles and 10th nationally with 19½ tackles for a loss.

Dotson began his post-football career by working as an assistant under Texas High School Coaches Association Hall of Honor head coach Ray Seals at Houston Madison High School for two seasons. Dotson helped defensive lineman William Moore become a finalist for the Touchdown Club of Houston Defensive Player of the Year and earn a scholarship to the University of Houston.

Dotson played collegiately at Oklahoma (2004-07), where he was a member of four BCS Bowl teams and three Big 12 champion squads. As a senior, Dotson played in all 14 games and recorded 20 tackles (16 solo), two sacks, seven QB hurries, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery as the Sooners defeated Missouri in the Big 12 championship and earned a bid to the Fiesta Bowl. He finished his career with 29 tackles (23 solo) and four sacks in 25 games played.

Dotson earned a degree in sociology and a minor in African-American studies from Oklahoma.

Dotson attended Alief Hastings High School in Houston. As a senior, he led his team to the state playoffs, recorded 114 tackles and 12 sacks, and earned Player of the Year honors from the Houston Chronicle.

Dotson is single and resides in Green Bay. His uncle, Santana Dotson, was a 10-year NFL veteran who played six seasons for the Packers and was a member of the Super Bowl XXXI championship team. His grandfather, Alphonse Dotson, was a second-round selection by Green Bay in the 1965 NFL Draft and played four years in the American Football League.

After the later round picks by the Jets, we read that Mac likes to scout the smaller schools to find little known talent.(Not just the power conferences like some NFL teams do.). If he is going to do that, then the more scouts he employs, the better chance there will be to find those players. Good move.

I agree look if George Armstrong Custer had more scouts & listened to them he may have been around for the Cardinals first of two championships.

Not sure. I hear he lost the coin toss and had to start the battle on defense, while the combined forces of the Lakota, Northern Cheyenne, and Arapaho tribes rode down on him.
