The NFL has some crazy policies.
Cheat by using PEDs to gain a competitive edge, you get a 4 game suspension.
Cheat again by using a masking agent to beat the test, and your rewarded with a 2 game reduction for cheating .

I’m blown away by players who still take this stuff. You cannot deceive the system anymore. They know how it works, including masking agents.

And yet, they still take this gamble with their careers.

Sadly it's part of the sports culture. You would be shocked how young the kids start with the PEDs n Roids. It's common on the HS level. Rampant at the College level, and the norm at the Pro level. For some, like Stewart, it may make the difference between making the roster, and for others, getting that next big money deal.

Given the log jam ahead of him this could be a very costly mistake on his part. Enunwa, Pryor, Anderson, and Hanson will not leave a lot of playing time for Stewart. Big, big mistake.

I think he was all ready on the bubble, don't forget Kearse. Depending on the play of whom ever inherits his roster spot for the first 2 weeks, it could cost him his spot.

I think you are correct about being on the bubble. He might even have been a little below the bubble with the only chance of getting a roster spot being if one of the others mentioned not panning out for some reason. Still, waiting for the training camp dust to settle, it would be nice not to lose one for that seemingly repetitive and incredibly stupid reason.

Does this silly stuff even make enough of a difference to risk getting suspended for? Brady deflated his balls to get an advantage. Pro Brady guys say"everyone does it, or it doesn't make a difference ". Why do it then? If it doesn't give you a better chance to win, why bother taking the risk? Stupidity? Probably for a lot of guys. Arrogance? In bradys case . Just play the darn game. Whoever has more God given talent wins, period. Or at least has the competitive edge. Not everyone is the best at what they do and even the best are not the best any given Sunday

They do it because of the money at stake. Same reason they forgo their future health..
The PED issue is one all major sports struggle with and I'd wager that it's the majority of players in usingall sport are using them to gain an edge. In the NFL, it's probably upward of 90 % of the players who use them , to the point where if a player isn't using them, they probably don't make it into the league.

Sad, but true. This is not a Jets problem, it's a sports wide problem. It's an unfortunate side effect of athletes needing to be highly competitive to keep their jobs.

As far as not able to deceive the system anymore that's just not true. A majority of the players are still doing PED's. They are just being smart.
The way the CBA is structered , if they aren't in the substance abuse program, the players are only tested once a year first week of camp. That's why they seldom fail for coke, or opiates. It flushes from their systems in a matter of days. Pot is stored in the fat cells, and is retained up to a month.

A smart player hires a good PT, much like Brady has, who administers designer PED'S in a cycle. The cycles are timed so that the players are in a down cycle when they are tested. As soon as they pee, off to the PT to reload. Only guys who get busted are dopes who can't control themselves with the pot, or are stupidly administering the PED's themselves

That's the drug testing procedure.for illegal drugs.
The Banned substance testing is different.
Each week during the season, which runs from September to February, the NFLPA randomly selects 10 players per team to be tested for testing. Though specimens may be collected any day of the week, the collection of blood specimens is prohibited on game days, and a player cannot be asked for more than six blood tests per year.

For NFL specimens collected at a training facility or a stadium, players have up to three hours to deliver it from the time they were notified. For specimens collected anywhere else, such as their home, the player has to schedule a time for specimen collection within 24 hours of notification.
The problem is, there are several substances that don't show up during testing and the labs that create the PEDs and substances are constantly changing formulas to beat the testing. It's a game of cat and mouse.

It's incredibly bad moves like this that can hold a team back. Ideally, Stewart would have set himself up to take over for Kearse in 2018, saving the team $5mm in valuable cap space. That's what you expect from third round picks.
