Darnolds First Game

Im pulling for Darnold as a Jets fan and after watching him in his first Pre Season game I came away impressed. Yeah I know Pre Season means nothing, I put little value on outcomes. But I looke at Darnolds pocket awareness his field vision and accuracy and liked what I saw. I know it was against back ups, but for his showing so far looked good. Couple of concerns but nothing big. The only thing I didnt like was an 18yd pass down field that seemed to take a long time getting there. Against starters he isnt going to have guys covered loose and a floating 18 yd pass will get picked off. Darnolds short passes had zip and he didnt get frustrated throwing for 3 TDs to get one. Not his fault. So Im waiting to see if he can put a little more zip on the 20 plus passes in tight coverage because he had it in short. I like his answers and work ethic. Darnolds head doesnt swell up like so many others has and just seems level headed. So far, I like everything about him, and other than that 18 yd pass that seemed to take forever to get there I think Jets might have something if Coaches dont screw him up. Oh, I like his reads on Defenses! Not many QB rookies can do that. But Pre Season all run vanilla Defenses and have to see how he does in reg games. Nice Going Darnold!! Keep it up!

The Jets for the first time, probably ever in history have a very good dilemma here. We all know what the dilemma is, and that is they have three very competent quarterbacks. Two that are still very young and can or will be franchise quarterback’s. With that said and if Darnold keeps playing the way to he’s playing you got to start this kid. Question is what do you do in Bridgewater? Do you hold on to him and if needed play, weather Darnold starts to flounder a bit or God forbid he gets injured? Or do you throw him out there is trade bait to try to get maybe a third or maybe even a second round pick, being that he’s only 25 years old. The Jets are already giving Darnold 75% of the starting reps snaps, so it appears that we all know where this is going.

His accuracy needs improvement from what he showed in game 1 and all the plays we're pre determined reads. Watch his highlights. Some plays he never looks off his primary target. He won't get away with that against starters.
he definitely showed promise but has a ways to go

This is the million dollar question: do you keep a great locker room guy, who’s a competent veteran in Josh McCown as your backup? Or do you keep Bridgewater, who would be an excellent 2nd option if Darnold ended up not being ready yet, or if Darnold ends up a bust? (Highly unlikely).

I’m starting to question moving Bridgewater. Might not be the smartest decision.

Gotta try and get back some of what we gave up to get Darnold. The way Bridgewater is playing, we or they rather might get a 2nd rounder for him. This team isn’t a playoff team this year anyway IMO so you gotta build for the future. McCown will help develop Darnold with no animosity ofcourse. Bridgewater wants to play and rightfully so. Only 25 and very or pretty good and growing QB before he got hurt. He still can work his way into a franchise QB role with the right team. Bridgewater won’t be happy staying with the Jets and riding the bench. He may not say it or show it but he rightfully won’t be happy unless he’s playing.

& we will if bridgewater continues to practice well & plays well in the preseason.. at worst, (or perhaps best) just before the trading deadline..

keep him until a situation gets dire for a team needing a QB,whether it be a starter or an experienced back up. If it takes into the seaon then so be it. Do not get low balled for a 25 year old former probowl QB.

It’s only a matter of time before a team loses it’s starting QB to injury. And you’re right, the desperation will force them to give up a lot for a quality player at the premium position.

Agreed! Remember when Bridgewater got hurt and Minnesota gave up a first round pick for Bradford. That was absolutely insane IMO. To give up that much for a average quarterback or alittle bit better but they were a contenting team that felt he was worth it. We may find ourselves in that same position given up Bridgewater for high second rounder or low first rounder sometime within the next couple of weeks.

Wasn't it a first and condition 4th that could have been as high as a second?

McCown can be moved to QB Coach asst. Bridge is back up unless traded to Raiders for Mack with a 2nd round pick. All thats great if Darnold starts. Far as accuracy I thought he looked fine and didnt see him pass far off. One play Darnold threw a touch pass over the D Linemans arms up in his face and completed it. So Im not sure about accuracy issues. Far as telegraphing passes... Im a big griper about that and was all over Sanchez day one staring at WR from under Center. Darnold did NONE of that. I watched him look both sides checking and came back to WR he thought open. My big issue is tonight against starters with less time to pass and craftier CB's out there baiting him to throw their way. I also expect a couple of Blitzes out of the norm of vanilla Defense. I think we will know more about Darnold is REALLY AT in tonights game. Funny thing is it was the Redskins who caused Sanchez Downfall! Remember the CB's coming out publicly saying they knew every pass was going by Sanchez. YEP, I was furious that his telegraphing Passes wasnt addressed and holding the ball STARING under Center at the WR he was throwing to and hold the ball even doubled covered and tripled and still threw it!. Darnold in first game isnt a Sanchez so far. Not evenm close.

Darnold cant start this year. Jets are not ready at all. Redskins collapsing the pocket up the middle! ZERO RB with Powell. Jets needs that big bruising RB/FB that can pound the ball right up the middle. This stops Defenses collapsing the pocket in the middle and wears them out stopping the BIG DEFENSES with a BEAST RB/FB. Im thankful that Redskins showed us how weak our Center and Tackles are up the middle along with showing Jets Flopping small RB's bouncing of their Defense. So next year Jets gets a Center and 2-3 more O Linemen for the Middle to Protect Darnold and add a BIG punishing RB/FB and Darnold will be the Jets best QB in 40 years. Sadly NOT NOW. Oh man,our Defense looks slow plodding and ZERO pressure up front. I watched Middleton watch a Skin player run right by and then gets a INT the next play. CUT HIM. Hey Skins. Thanks for Show Jets GM & HC what they need next year and I hope they are gone by then. I really liked the 4th and 1 Pass play called! Brilliant! Reminded me of Farve passing on 4th and 1 throwing a INT instead of running the ball and we had Thomas then! Who do we have at RB for 1yd up middle? ZIP!

I did think Darniold looked good when pressure came off the ends and got rid of the ball at last second. Funny I told my son I was worried about our Offense collapsing up the middle with hands up. Over all Poor play calling, pathetic Offensive line in middle and running game look weak to pathetic running up the middle. I still think Darnolds ok for next year IF Jets fix O Line in middle and get a BEAST RB like Blount when young.
