Darnold has a very good arm. Not an absolute cannon, like an Elway, Namath,Mahomes, or Josh Allen. In terms of arm strength, he reminds me of Ken O'Brien. His arm is plenty strong enough. I watched every throw that he made on his pro day in a downpour and he completed several bombs with no problem. Here are some quarterbacks with much less arm strength than Darnold : Tom Brady, Joe Montana, Drew Brees, Bart Starr, Lenny Dawson and Teddy Bridgewater. The nit-picking and paranoia among Jets fans apparently knows no limits. Relax, everyone. We Have our franchise quarterback.
In the modern NFL, success is predicated upon recognizing what you are seeing at the line of scrimmage, processing what the defense is doing after the snap within one second, making the correct decision as to where to go with the ball, and then hitting the receiver in stride. It is also important if you have the inner confidence to shrug off the inevitable mistakes and to take command of the huddle and then eventually the team. It is a huge plus if you can make "off schedule" plays when the pocket breaks down, which will happen often this year.
Is there anyone who seriously doubts that our 21 year-old rookie has all of the necessary qualities that I delineated?
Really, guys. To quote Aaron Rodgers, "R-E-L-A-X."
