From participating on multiple Jets boards over the years, I’ve learned one important thing from a large segment of this fan base: patience runs out quickly.

I have not one doubt that the minute Darnold has a bad game (almost a rookie inevitability), there will be SOJ calls for people’s heads, bust labels thrown about, and promises to find another football team to follow.

As sure as the Sun rises in the East.

I wouldn’t jump on this idea so fast because this situation and Darnold appears to be different. First the situation, the team is rebuilding and appears to be doing it the right way. Their going young for the most part and have cleared their cap space. They aren’t investing in a bunch of over the hill or talented but attitude problem type players. Come next off season with the money they have, if they do the right things, the Jets can become a a contender pretty quick. I can’t remember the last time this team has ever done it this way. They have always been a win now type of franchise and it hasn’t worked.

Now for Darnold, he in no way shape, form or passion appears to be a Sanchez or Geno. He is smart and very very very talented. He has shown how he has learned and improved from his USC mistakes. Which we all know is protecting the ball and making the smart decisions. Taking what the defense gives you, not forcing what ain’t there, and taking that smart sack without giving up a bunch of yards or turning the ball over to fight another day. Running when you have to and getting out of bounds or sliding to avoid the hits, reading the defense and being patient but also feeling the pressure and making the right and smart choice with the ball when it starts to callapse on him. He’s accurate, a leader and the team appears to want to follow him and have faith in him.

If I remember correctly, Jets fans gave Pennington all the leeway in the world because he was smart with the ball, extremely accurate and a leader. In fact, he had all the attributes that Darnold had but he wasn’t a scrambling type of QB and his arm strength wasn’t anywhere as strong. It wasn’t until Pennington showed he wasn’t the same after those years of injuries that Jets fans started to loose faith.

I think Jets fans will have a lot of faith and give Darnold that leverage without all the scrutiny. Sure you’ll have the few knuckleheads out there but for the most part, we are smarter then that. We know we have the real deal here, just like we had in Pennington but Darnold is a lot better. Now will the media cut Darnold some slack is the question and that I doubt seriously.

there is always going to be those skeptics, doubters because of history of the team and it's documented failures... the only person that can silence those doubters is Sam Darnold and how he overcomes his short comings and develops over time... the better the team applies talent surrounding him will allow him to evolve but the road is not smooth and there will be plenty of bumps and bruises along the way... Is he the next big thing, no one can say for certain but he is truly the best long term option from this draft class, not because of his age but of his foundation...

Sammy D is far more polished then what we drafted in Sanchez back in '09... Patience is not a known commodity from this fan base but most now are showing optimism that luck is better than knowing how to select talent... Leonard Williams fell in our lap, now Sam Darnold... Expect these two to be staples for this organization for years unless we become the Raiders and trade away our talent for some dumb picks...

Its funny the Cardinals are saying the same thing about Rosen LOL. But I do a agree from what i have read this kid gives us the best chance we have had here since the 60's. Yes i wanted Bridgewater to start to give this guy a little bench time before he gets thrown in....Also to see if he was our answer.....I guess I must trust in the fact that he looks to be that one in a 100 that can take starting right away. If the Jets are right.......I hope this is not just an order from the top.

It was inevitable once TB was traded. If Bowles started Mac he would have been run out of town on a rail. Looking forward to seeing the kid develop and I hope the OL can protect him.

Absolutely NOT!
Jets fans are knowledgeable enough to realize the if Darnold had a bad game, it will be because he was running for his life behind an offensive line Mac has had years to develop and has seemed loathe* to do it. Given time to pass, we know he will succeed.

I think this might be giving Jets fans a bit too much credit.
