The Jets are reportedly going to release Crowell.
He has a $2 million roster bonus due on Friday so they will save some money there.

That said, I won't be unhappy if we sign Bell, but I LOVE Tevin Coleman, wanted the Jets to draft him, and he should come considerably cheaper.
You're probably right and I'm not gonna lie, adding Bell would be exciting, but IMO we have too many needs so we have to spread our FA money around wisely. That's why I would rather add Coleman who will come cheaper, considerably cheaper, but he's a feature back in my view and a dual threat as a runner and a receiver, and still young too. Anyway I think Coleman makes more sense so we can remain aggressive in free agency.I guarantee Mac will chase Bell like he did with Cousins. I just hope Bell follows through on his tweet that said he wouldn't play for the Jets. Coleman would be an awesome signing and I would give Mac credit for it.

Powell is done
30 years old
free agent
probably career ending neck injury
he won't be back
As of today Jets basically have no running game .
Maybe we are preparing to sign both RB's, Bell and Coleman. :global (18):Powell is done

I'm old enough to remember when Freeman McNeil was our feature back and Johnny Hector was our #2. Freeman was terrific and somebody had to be #1 so I had no problem with Freeman being that guy, plus we drafted him #3 Overall and drafted Hector in the 2nd RD.With this news it’s obvious that Bell and or Coleman are their targets in free agency. Coleman would be a nice pick up but not to be our featured back. He wasn’t in Atlanta for a reason so what makes us think he can be one here? They still need to draft a featured 215 plus pound back to be our featured guy. If they do, the rookie, Coleman and McGuire would make a nice combo there. Powell will probably retire or get cut and that small rookie RB from last year can be our special teams and gagget guy here and there. Bell is to experience, with to much baggage. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Jets pass on him!

BUT, that said, I always believed Johnny Hector could have been the feature back on at least half the teams in the NFL and I didn't know one Jets fan who disagreed. Bad break for Hector is that was before free agency, so the team that drafted you owned your rights for the duration of your career or until they cut you. But if we had both of those backs today, same arrangement, I have no doubt teams would be lining up to sign Hector as their feature back the minute he hit free agency. I was glad we couldn't lose Hector back then, but he was SO GOOD that I kind of felt bad for him too.
Hector was a good soldier and he never complained about it, but I'll go to my grave believing he could have been a feature back elsewhere.
I kind of look at Tevin Coleman the same way. Ironically the Falcons feature back is a "Freeman" too, but Coleman is a feature back in my view.
I maintain that Bell would be an average performer behind our o-line. The line needs to sustain blocks longer because of his running style, not something we do well. He's an excellent receiver, but so are a lot of backs. Coleman is as well. My opinion is spend the money elsewhere, draft another RB. McGuire and Cannon are both fine. Add Coleman and you have a nice trio of backs. We need a #1 receiver far more than we do another back.
I think he's a huge risk, and not worth the money. If we get him fine, I'm just skeptical that he's going to perform the way say Curtis Martin did when we got him. I don't see it.
I agree that bell has an ego, but he's nothing like Antonio brown. I think bell could work well with the jets.Bell and Brown are the types of players you bring in when you’re one or two skill players away. You live with the fact that they’re both temperamental guys to get you to the finish line of winning a championship.

I wouldn't pay brown and give up a high pick for him.
I don't necessarily want bell in a vacuum, but the reality is he is the playmaker that's available, and you need playmakers.
