We need to trade Darren Lee

Lee is young and he’s a starting caliber player in some systems. I’m thinking can we trade him for a high 3rd round pick like to Denver#71st pick or to Bowles in TB for the #70th pick. Maybe Cincy could be an option. What you you guys think??

im think that then we could wheel and deal to get back into the 2nd for the best Center or Left Tackle available.

Am I not implying that we need to trade Lee away because we don’t need him , because that’s what I’m trying to say.

Maybe Lee or Williamson can transition to the OLB spot and no one will be the odd man out. Unless the Jets are seeing Jenkins and Luvu as the starters and there's no chance or Lee taking the starting spot, then maybe a trade would be best.

The rumor is that this coaching staff doesn’t feel like Lee is their type of linebacker. Rex Ryan was a pretty good defensive coordinator, and he stated that Lee is soft and the Jets got a huge upgrade with Mosley.

That four game suspension for substance abuse probably didn’t help him either.

Lee and the Saints 3rd for a 2nd.

Let me play devil's advocate, or as probably will be the case a punching bag. In Williamson and Mosley you have sorta similar players with Williamson being a 'Mosley lite'. Lee is different in that he brings a dynamic athleticism to the LB corps which we otherwise do not have. It was evident in spurts last year, and in my opinion is something that Gregg Williams will bring out on a more consistent basis. I think pairing Lee with Mosley would be a dynamic middle for the jets defense. Either add Allen to bookend with Jenkins or QWilliams in the middle sandwiched by Anderson and LWilliams and you really have an interesting potential in your defense. With Adams and hopefully a healthy Maye, the potential is exciting. So why not trade Williamson? I think that you might get a decent return for him.

Rex is still a dick. But he's on point with this appraisal of Lee.

"With the signing of C.J. Mosley, Ryan told the New York Post the Jets have a replacement for Lee. "They have a real linebacker now," Ryan said. "The one kid [Darron Lee] is soft as Charmin, but I think he'll even play tougher with this guy. This guy is a great pro, studies the game, loves the game. That's what that defense needs."

based only on what we've seen this offseason, it appears to me williams is not a big fan of lee or his supposed dynamic athleticism..

i think it comes down to williamson being a better player and a better fit for what gregg williams wants in his LBers. and williamson has a bigger contract that teams may not want to assume (plus jets would take a large cap hit to trade him)

You all might be exactly right, but I don't think any of us know what Gase, Williams are thinking. Are we basing Williams' dislike for Lee based upon the fact that we signed Mosley? Maybe he doesn't like Williamson because he is limited athletically, coverage wise at least. Interesting nonetheless. Bottom line is that we have some great options. What if we draft Williams at #3 and the DC uses more 4-3 and DC has Lee as an option at weakside OLB? Williamson doesn't provide that sort of flexibility.

I got tired of Rex after his time here as HC. I thought he was too loose with the players in terms of holding people accountable.

But there is no disputing the fact that he was a great DC. And his opinions of defensive players carries some weight with me. For him to describe a player at the linebacker position as “Soft” is about as bad a criticism as they come. Soft is not good.

I thought Lee showed flashes of greatness over the last three years, but he disappeared a little too much. I’m good with moving on after getting Mosley. Mosley is a stud.
