Quinnen Williams or Montez Sweat?

Either way, Macc will be on uneasy ground from Jet fans.

All things considered it would be really hard, not impossible, but hard for Mac to muck this first round up. After round 1 though the odds are different.

Some fans are already committed to trashing Maccagnan no matter what happens.

He’s got options. He can take the player they really want if that player is there, or probably field offers from multiple teams if the scheme fit issue arises. I’m not 100% convinced that either Bosa (scheme) or Q.Williams (need) is on their radar. Josh Allen makes all the sense in the world, though. Perfect player for the right scheme at the right value.

I so agree. He could make a huge difference for this defense right away and for many years after and thus would be a really good investment.

I'll say this about Quinnen Williams ...

IMO he's the best player in the draft, not Nick Bosa.

That said, I know some Jets fans will be apoplectic if Q slides to #3 and Mac takes him, and I recognize he's not the same degree of need as an edge rusher, not even close, nor is he a good scheme fit in the 3-4. He can play in a 3-4 but he would be far more productive in a 4-3. But all that said, there is NO WAY can I get mad about taking the best player in the draft. I hope Allen drops to #3 cause he's the ideal fit, but I can't get mad about taking Q.

If the Jets were in a 4-3 alignment than Williams would be my no questions asked first pick. I still think he's being considered after reading Gaze talking about you need the right kind of pass rush to disrupt a player like Brady. That could only mean one thing - pressure up the middle and that's Williams forte. I do realize they could move him around even in a 3-4 but as mentioned above he will be double teams every play. That plan actually might have worked had they signed Houston to be the edge guy.

So the natural play is to draft a 3-4 edge rusher which Allen would be perfect for and Sweat is probably next in line. At that point, because of his heart condition, I would feverishly try to trade down. Maybe Oakland wants him so bad they would trade with the Jets and add a number 2 to the mix. I do think Allen will be available and I will be nervous like last year that Mac doesn't screw it up.

Right now, I want Josh Allen. But if we take Quinnen Williams, that’s not a bad pick. Not today, not next week, not on April 25th. That guy is an NFL defensive lineman. No question about it.

Not until the Jets pass on Q.Will will I believe that the Jets are 3-4... but if it's Q how can they stay 3-4?

I’ve considered that question also, but.....Williams at nose guard wouldn’t be your prototypical ‘Snacks’ type nose guard, but by all accounts, Williams is more than capable with his strength agility combination, of holding up against double teams. There is also the fact that he has C.J. Moseley playing behind him at middle linebacker.

Gregg Williams has stated that the Jets will be a 3-4 base defense. He has shown different looks in the past though. I don’t think it will be solely 3-4.

But with Anderson and McClendon coming back, it would seem like the starters are set. There doesn’t appear to be a position for Quinnen Williams, unless Williams believes he can play the nose. (Or whatever position they’re calling that).

With the Anthony Barr snub in FA, I’ve gotta think Josh Allen is the target. Matt Miller (BR) is saying that he’s hearing that it’s Josh Allen or trade the pick for the Jets. And that Kyler is going #1, and the 49ers will take Bosa. Just rumblings at this point. Still three weeks for things to change.

The helmet contact is a great thing.

No, it's really not. More often than not, it gets the tackler hurt than the guy getting tackled. And if that head dips too low, a guy is going to end up like Dennis Byrd. It's exactly the kind of hit we need to take out of the game.

For those too young to remember the incident, the Dennis Byrd’s neck injury was a freak accident when Byrd (with his head down) went full force into the chest of teammate D-Lineman Scott Mersereau.

I loved Byrd. My favorite player of that era, and one of my favorite Jets ever. That did not change by any means after his injury.

That said, it was exactly what players are coached not to do.
