I can think of someone in particular who’s going to be insufferable for weeks about this. Maybe longer.

I'm not going to be insufferable. I think the Jets are a horrible organization and this is the type of firing a historically bad organization does. With that said, I'm over the top happy he is gone.

While I was less than trilled with his draft moves this year it doesn't make sense to fire him at this point unless he and Gase truly were having a great deal of trouble working together. Both have said that wasn't the case, but, something had to be amiss to cause this action at this juncture of the season.

Yup. Feeding the narrative that this organization is dysfunctional. Idiotic timing. And just a bad move in general.

Im questioning Chris Johnson’s intelligence right now.

I agree the Jets are dysfunctional and the Johnson brothers are morons, but getting rid of Mac is 2 years too late and its a great move. Horrible timing though. Now maybe we prioritize OL.

sounds like jeremiah is close with douglas and he would be coming in a front office position and not the actual GM

So a package deal. Douglas as GM, Jeremiah as something like VP and head of player personnel?

If that’s the case, then Gase was going into full liar/politician mode. He said all of the media speculation was nonsense. Completely dismissed that there was a problem with Maccagnan.

He should’ve said “next question” rather than lie about it.

As bad as this moves seems it has happened before John Dorsey was fired in June 2017. Everything ended up ok for the Chiefs and Browns.

Mac has completely blown almost every pick outside of the first 6 picks. Middle rounds is where you build depth and Mac has completely failed.

Ideal it would have been a twofer when Bowles was let go but I don't see the "bad timing" ...also probably means that there are players on roster that Gase didn't want... I'm all for the coach having the most input on the final rosters

I'll be very candid. Was not a fan of the Gase hiring at the outset. And Mac's track record in the draft has been below average after round 1. His picks in the first round have been excellent, with the exception of Darron Lee, who is an NFL starter - maybe not here, but he is capable and improved last year. All of that said - I think this is the right move. If the GM and HC are not on the same page and don't share the same vision - a problem we've seen over and over again for decades - this will never work. The only way this can work is if Gase has someone that shares his vision and vice versa. Kudos to Mac for getting Darnold and Adams, and Williams and Quentin Williams and CJ Mosley, and Crowder and Bell and Herndon. That's a good foundation of talent. This team is not far off at all.

I disagree about Chris Johnson - I think he has a vision of the kind of organization he wants, the culture he wants and this wasn't going to work. So rather than suffer through another year of rifts and internal strife, make the move now and build the organization that he wants. I applaud the decision. No one will care about this if the Jets win. They just need to go out and win games, and get a championship.

Look at this way - being a Jet fan is never dull.

I'm not totally convinced of this. Every team has a low batting average in the later rounds. Herndon as a mid-rounder, Robby Anderson as a UFA. If he was below average, it wasn't by much - which may be more because few teams have a good track record in the later rounds. It's not an endorsement of Macc as much as it is an indictment of every team.

Christopher Johnson:

On Maccagnan just 7 weeks ago: “I think he’s terrific at his job. He has a plan I believe in”.

Adam Gase:

On reported rift with Maccagnan: “it pisses me off that that’s put out there. Of course we disagree sometimes. How boring would it be if everyone always agreed?”

This organization has egg on its face today. We look like a joke. And this is coming from one of the most optimistic Jets fans on this board. Bad look, Chris.

I am completely at a lose of words but it is what it is! Can't say that I like or disliked Mac. Here's the reason why and correct me if I'm wrong here:

Positives:
- He cleared the cap and got the Jets started in the right direction of going young and building through the draft.
- Cutting bait with the head cases and washed up veterans.
- He along with Gase and whomever signed the right free agents this year, or it seems as if they have.
- Over the past four years, he's drafted well with the obvious picks, rounds 1-3 for the most part.

Negatives:
- Rounds 4-7, Mac has struggled with his picks for the most part.
- He didn't address the oline, WR and defensive backfield as needed this year.
- He held onto Bowles a year or two too long.

I may be missing something here but to me he's done a better then decent job. I think his positives out way his negatives. I guess he and Gase actually were having issues and those reports from a week or so ago were dead on.

I have not seen anything this bad since Julius Caesar. Gase got the big knife out.....& struck him down on the Jets steps

Gase shouldn’t have been given interim status. How appealing is our GM opening to high profile candidates when it’s clear that Gase is going to have a big say in player personnel?

It didnt work in Miami. Gase should be coaching. That’s it. Let the GM handle personnel. The only way this works is if Gase gets somebody close to him and his philosophy. I hope Douglass is the right guy. I’m tired of this turnover.
