Another Train-Wreck? I'm Officially Worried

Last Thursday or Friday when we fired Mac I warned everyone not to expect any hires this weekend because, well, it's the weekend, but more importantly we have to fulfill that dopey Rooney Rule before we can officially hire Joe Douglas who has been rumored to the Jets since well before Mac was fired.

So I surmised that we wouldn't see anything happen until early next week (i.e. this week).

Well tomorrow is Friday and still NOTHING, which tells me it's entirely possible the Jets fired Mac with no replacement waiting in the wings.

I would have bet my life on Joe Douglas being hired this week, but I forgot that would require a plan and this sad-sack organization never has a plan.

Once again it seems like we are just winging it, either that or Joe Douglas changed his mind about being "GM of the NYJ"

Hey, it won't be the first time someone left us standing at the alter with that dumb look on our faces, and now I'm officially concerned.

They have to line up a minority to "interview" and make it look like they really searched...

I also don't think the Rooney rule is dopey, we are under represented in comparison to players and coaches to FO

Were probably going 5-11 anyway so does it really matter if we even have a gm at all? With the draft and free agency over, we're pretty much going with Mac's team anyway

don't worry Gase has an ASS in the hole

in former Jets' Dolphins' GM Mike Tannebaum who would most certainly take the job and massage his ego has he is known for being a pussy cat GM...

i don't believe the rooney rule is dopey either but it's a toothless tiger.....
I supported the Rooney Rule when it was instituted because I felt like it was needed and you had to be obtuse to suggest otherwise. Clearly you had exceedingly qualified black coaches and GM's being passed over for some of the most incompetent white guys they could have hired. Call me naive, but I just don't think it's necessary anymore. Guys like Ozzie Newsome, Tony Dungy, Mike Tomlin etc. have made the point. I think most clubs will hire anyone now, regardless of color, if they believe he can make them winners. It's a completely different world now than it was when the Rooney Rule was instituted.

But hey, I could be wrong.

The Rooney rule was instituted for a good reason but as jetgreen13 pointed out it was very easy to get around which in reality made it ineffective. It did create awareness however which combined with the performance of guys like you mentioned here resulted in accomplishing the same goal. I think the team owners finally wised up to the fact that they should hire the best man available for the job which should have been their goal all along. I agree that it probably isn't necessary any more but will likely always remain just as a security blanket for those that feel that it is still necessary.

This thread isn't about the Rooney Rule. I have no doubt well maybe a little that the Jets will pick a GM soon. I do have no doubt that he will be Gase friendly. I know many here didn't like the hire, but he is a polar opposite of Bowles. He and Williams will bring a new attitude over Bowles and that useless idiot Rodgers. With the players these days they need a disciplinarian and they need structure. I'm grateful to Gase for firing Mac, but just look at the intensity at voluntary OTA's. Sounds like this team is going to be completely different from the last 4 years. jets82 now you should be thinking about the Sunday Ticket. Gase will be awesome for this offense. Williams will be awesome for this defense. I also acknowledge Gase could flame out, but I like the culture change going on.

Positivity from Tebow. Now I know we're screwed. Anybody know who's projected as the #1 pick next year?
