Former Jets defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson was arrested early Saturday for driving while intoxicated, according to the New York Post.

The 29-year-old free agent was stopped in Upper Manhattan at about 4 a.m. with a blood alcohol level of .09, exceeding the legal limit of .08.

The 6-foot-4, 315-pound defensive end was a former first round draft pick of the Jets in 2011 and played with Gang Green through the 2017 season before he was cut and signed with the Green Bay Packers where he played in just three games last year.

Wilkerson, who had 44.5 sacks with the Jets, was inactive the final three games of the 2017 season but then-head coach Todd Bowles said it was not due to disciplinary reasons, but rather a "business decision."

Wilkerson was awaiting arraignment in Manhattan Criminal Court Saturday afternoon.

Oh I hope that the cop was a Jets fan. Fuck my team by earning your huge payday then quitting to play like a pro??? Go f yourself Mr Wilkerson. You will never get that ring, but I have some nice bracelets for you.

He's played for two teams Jets and lastly the Packers where he is now listed as a free agent on their roster and it puzzles me why when a player screws up publicly if he ever played for the Jets it's always reported ex Jets player did this. Why doesn't the headline read Green Bay packer player arrested for DUI ? Just another opportunity by reporters to put the Jets in a bad light ? ? ?

It might be because he played 3 games last year for GB. Thank god the idiot that paid him all that money while letting Snacks go is gone forever.

a just terrible character judgement by Maccagnan(and to a lesser extant Bowles) - giving that kind of money/contact to such a dog - big contracts must be based on BOTH talent and CHARACTER. Clearly - Wilkerson's money(and it would have been a lot less) should have gone to snacks. The Wilkerson contract is a HUGE indictment on both Maccagnan & bowles

I remember reading that he had some major family issues in Jersey which had a bad impact on him when he played for us and that moving away was good for him - until he got hurt again. Got to think returning to NY was not a smart move on his part - seems like demons got the best of him. I did not like Mac, but I cant blame him for paying wilk. No one knew about the issues that TB let go on until it was leaked finally. I got a feeling TB and Mac did not talk often and perhaps TB was not forthcoming about this missing meetings since discipline was not important to him. All I know wilk and sheldon were awesome under Rex. How do two top notch players (and the main strength of the team) got to crap so quickly - got to be the coach.

its even more damning if Maccagan did NOT know. Its unfathomable that Wilkerson's character(or lack thereof) wasn't somewhat discernible before given all that dough.Clearly, Bowles ceiling is as a defensive coordinator under a quality head coach. One of the single most important issues for teams and GMs going forward is WHO to lavish with huge contracts(Tru Johnson or Revis anyone?).

Same thing with Winslow Jr. He didn't begin or end as a Jet, but he was reported as "former Jet."

mo played 7 years with the jets who drafted him in the 1st round and gave him a large contract. he played 3 games with the packers. he was busted in NY and the NY papers were the first to report on it. do people really think he's gonna be called a former packer???

Right and that's my point. They do that shit all the time in an effort to cast a poor light on the Jets.
If a NY-area paper writes about a former NY player, that's what they call him. The Wisconsin Journal isn't going to call him a "former Jet". The Cleveland Plain Dealer isn't calling Winslow a former Jet. That's the way it works. They're kind of letting you know why they're reporting on a non-NY player.

But nationally, a guy will almost always be listed as a "former Jet" if it's a negative story, whether he played his first game, his last game, the majority of his games as a Jet or not. The local media will refer to a guy with what is most pertinent to their region, but the national sources will almost always frame someone as a former Jet if the story is negative, and far less often as a former Jet if the story is positive.

That's exactly what I'm seeing as a pattern. It's as if they are just looking for bad things to say about the Jets. Sometimes admittedly once the story gets traction they switch to the phrase former NFL player. But if they are going to mention a team it should be the current or at least the last team. I'm not upset about it because it's been this way for so long that I'm numb to it but it is a trend that I have noticed and just wondered if anyone else had noticed it as well.

What do you mean "nationally" - USA Today? Or are you talking about ESPN etc.?

I feel like national TV will list more than one - "former Jets and Packers DL..."

From NFL.com:

ESPN.com:
Former New York Jets and Green Bay Packers defensive tackle Muhammad Wilkerson was arrested early Saturday for driving while intoxicated in Manhattan, police said.

That's actually less biased than I expected. I'm surprised to have seen both listed by ESPN or other national sources.
