I'm guessing this won't get many responses but I posted this here as well because it does not appear that the Other Sports forum gets much action:

For those that are basketball and especially NBA fans, this is for us! The Knicks have finally done something right by drafting this kid. He will be or has all the makings of being a superstar and a future first ballot HOFer. I personally like this pick more then Zion to the Knicks because I feel it's a bit safer. Zion is a monster, he's all world and he will be a superstar and a future first ballot HOFer as well. As long as he can stay healthy and hungry enough to maintain his weight and that's the issue for me. I don't doubt his motor, heart, talent or even his desire at this point in being the best but he plays with such reckless abandoned at 285 pounds and he's only 19 years old. The wear and tear on his body of the way he plays, after the years and the grind of the NBA has to come into factor after awhile.

Will he be the same player 5 or 7 or 9 years from now or will all that weight cause some kind of major injury? Will he even gets pass 3 years without a major leg injury with the way he plays and carrying all that weight? Now obviously he's having no problem carrying the weight thus far and it seems to be his natural body structure, so he might turn out to be just fine for a 15 year career. However; you gotta figure at 285 pounds and he's just a teenager at this point, he will only get stronger and bigger like most players and people do, so what then? Will he still be the same player, will he be able to maintain all that weight the way he plays and stay healthy and if so, will age and the weight start to wear down his interest maintaining himself and his passion of playing the game of basketball?

Obviously these aren't questions we have to worry about with R.J. Barrett and he may turn out to be our Tracy McGrady or Kawhi Leonard or Kobe Bryant.

Here’s to hoping both of New York’s third overall picks become HOFers.

I was impressed to see him out welcoming Kaapo Kakko, the Rangers' #2 overall pick. Barrett had the Rangers fans chanting his name last night at MSG.

Yeah I saw the link on that and I hope for all of our sakes and his that he turns out to be what we all think, hope, wish and pray for. NYC – NJ can be a really rough place to not turn out to be what everybody thinks you’re going to be.

All three of them 2018 & 2019

I don’t know anything about hockey so I won’t even bother embarrassing myself and comment but I believe R.J. Barrett will have it a lot rougher then Q. Williams. R.J will be expected to carry this team to success vitality by himself. Unless they sign Kawhi Leonard, Clay Thomas or Kevin Durant (if he recovers 100 percent). Those are the only 3, I would want them signing.

Q. Williams would play along side other prime time players. So he’s just another big time addition. He’s not the addition like R.J is. Now if we’re talking about Sam Darnold then he will have it harder then R.J. I believe the Mets have drafted or moved up some all world blue chip project also??? Anyway, here’s hoping all drafted NY-NJ players the best.

I was referring to the Jets and Knicks ... I know about next to nothing of the current baseball season and the past hockey season

Me the same, LoL! Only reason I know about the Mets rookie is because I heard it on Espn. Other then that I don’t follow or watch baseball all at until the playoffs or pennant race. I get into it a little bit then. Hockey I have no interest in and know absolutely nothing about it.

Thats why the Knicks are the Knicks.

Your such a hater and pessimist. This may turn out to be the best thing for the Knicks. Let me explain, of course it would have been the best thing for the Knicks to have signed KD and Kyrie but that’s only if KD was 100% healthy and ready to go and obviously he wasn’t. Depending on Kyrie to lead isn’t going to work and we seen that first hand with the Celtics. Now the only other option and even better option really would have been for the Knicks to have signed K. Leonard and Kyrie but we all know Leonard wasn’t coming to the Knicks anyway.

Third option was Klay Thompson but we are know Klay Thompson is staying with the Warriors. So being that all three of these options didn’t work you just go young. Now the Knicks may have dropped the ball by not wanting to offer KD to the max contract because of their concerns with his injuries. But you can’t really blame them for that because they’re trying to learn from their past mistakes with signing injured or injury riddled players. So they should just go young from this point and build from here, win or lose!

Their starting roster should and hopefully will be D. Smith, Barrett, Knox, Randle and Mitchell. All these guys are 24 and younger but if these players can build together over the next 2-3 years, they could be ready then to make a real playoff push and make something happen from there. So chin up my pessimistic friend. If the Knicks do this correctly then 2-3 years from now the Golden State, Toronto, Lakers, Clippers, Brooklyn, Houston, 76ers and all these other powerhouse teams will be on the downslope and the Knicks will be on the rise.

They better draft well. Nobody wants to play for that team. I'm not a Knicks fan pro really an NBA fan. I just follow all sports, but not like the NFL.

I hear you. I am a Knicks fan. Not diehard and crazy like I am a Jets fans but close enough. I like what the Knicks are doing and I’m looking forward to seeing them play this year.

Sometimes the best trade or signing is the one you didn’t make.
All the talking heads now love the Nets for signing K.D. and Kyrie. If it HAD been the Knicks, all you’d hear about is the money , a four year contract where he’ll only play AT MOST three years, given to an injured 30 something player who never won a ring outside of Golden State and his butt buddy Kyrie who is a ball hog and locker room cancer.
Even drafting Barret, who might turn out to be a better NBA player than the coveted Zion.
A young athletic, talented team that can gro together for the foreseeable future looks good.
The Nets now have all the expectations of at least going to the finals if not winning it. Kinda like when the Vikings signed QB Kirk Cousins and the Jets had to settle for a QB drafted 3 overall Sam Darnold.
I like the Jets future right now and for the foreseeable future over the Vikings.
The Knicks, hopefully, will turn out the same way.

As expected, everyone dumped on the Knicks because they didn’t get the two max contracts filled. The Porzingis argument holds no water for me. He didn’t want to be a Knick anymore, and is coming off a major knee injury. Why would we offer him a max contract if he didn’t want to be in NY? See ya, Kristaps, and take your crazy brother with you.

Durant is going to return from possibly the worst injury a basketball player can sustain: the Achilles. Most players are never the same after that injury. Granted, Durant at 80-90% is still really good, but he’ll be entering his mid thirties during that contract. He didn’t want to be the “savior” of the Knicks. I get that. It’s a ton of pressure playing on that team. A 20 year drought will do that to such a die hard fan base. He and Kyrie can chill out in Brooklyn where fans don’t bother to even show up most nights. Expectations will be high, but they won’t have to deal with the pressure cooker of MSG.

Kyrie Irving is a great player, but go ask the Celtics how that went last year. A lot of fingers were pointed his direction at the end of the year for the breakdown of that locker room.

The Knicks will continue the slow rebuild. They have a promising young core of Robinson, Knox, and Barrett. The contracts to the FA’s they signed have second year options. No long term commitment other than Julius Randle for possibly three years. Randle was a nice signing BTW. They’ll probably win 30-35 games next season, but at least they have a lot of future 1st round picks coming up to hopefully finish this roster.

So tonight is the first night of the NBA rookie summer league games. At least I believe tonight is the first night of games. What I do know for a fact is that the Knicks are playing the Pelicans tonight and it’s the worlds first look at the Barrett vs. Zion preview. Now of course in the grand scheme of things this game means absolutely nothing but then again it does have some meaning to it.

Unfortunately, I won’t be able to watch the entire game because I have to work early tomorrow morning. I will be recording it to watch later on this weekend and I’m looking forward to it. I’m looking to seeing what Barrett is going to do in his first sorta preview and also what Zion is going to do. So here we go Knicks fans, The hopeful 15-20 year journey of a great career for both rookies. Especially for our RJ Barrett and out New York Knicks.

I agree with everything your saying except the Porzingis comment. Correct me if I’m wrong but the main reason Porzingis wanted to leave the Knicks is because of the Knicks management and how horrible they were at trying to build a team around him. This is all mainly on the owner and Phil Jackson. If my thinking is correct then that is the Knicks fault that he left, the fact he wanted to leave and the fact that they didn’t whatever they could to fix that. So you can’t really blame Porzingis for wanting to go.

Now I believe he should’ve given the new regime a chance especially the new head coach but he wanted to go, so get what you can for him. Now his injury issues are another thing and if the Knicks didn’t want to chance paying him the max because of his injury I can sort of understand that. However; Porzingis is a developing talent that can flourish to be like not many others. He’s only 23 or 24, so he’s not like Kevin Durant who is 31. The Knicks keeping and paying Porzingis the max definitely would have been a smart and understandable move the pay the money, if he wanted to stay.

Imagine a starting five of Barrett, Knox, Porzingis and Mitchell. I’m assuming that if Porzingis would have stayed then the Knicks probably wouldn’t have signed Randall. Then again they still could have used a scorer and rebounder like Randall. I’m guessing Nilikilia at point guard or some one else I guess.

I feel the same regarding getting Barrett instead of Zion. I always think of Larry Johnson when I look at Zion and wonder if Zion will be the same guy if he loses that explosiveness, which is not uncommon. It happened to Amare Stoudemire too after he first came in and got hurt early on.

Barrett on the other hand will rely on intelligence and savvy. It may take him time to adjust but I think he ultimately will.

Btw, I was encouraged by how Knox looked in the Summer League game against N.O., before the earth quake- yikes, even tho Zion ripped the ball out of his arms at one point. I am one who was down on Knox so I was looking with a critical eye. And Zion did look good, no denying.
