Nick Bosa (49ers)
Brian Burns (Panthers)
Deebo Samuel (49ers)
Oshane Ximines (Giants)

Damnit, what’s the deal here? What does it always have to be a money issue? Just pay the kid what he wants (all in perspective ofcourse) and get his ass in training camp.

The NFL supposedly fixed this with the NFLPA, installing a precise amount for each draft slot in RD 1.

Apparently not. :-(

Correct they did but something is still holding up the process. The same thing happened last year with Darnold. If it ain't the money then what is it?

Should have picked Josh Allen. This kid seemed like someone to root for.

Now that's just cold blooded to say TCT. For whatever reason, the kid is at a stand still and I'm sure he has valid reasons to do so. Darnold did the same damn thing last year but I KNOW for a fact you didn't say, "They should have drafted Mayfield or Allen or Rosen or Jackson" I know this because of your man crush on Darnold and I can't blame you. I believe we got the best QB last year also. My point being here is cut the kid some slack. I'm sure he'll be in uniform before the first pre-season game. He loves football way to much and the Jets wanted him to damn bad!

The holdup is not the salary. It's the offset language they are haggling over. What kind of guarantees for injury, early cuts, bonuses, etc. Basically all the little details except the salary. Those are the same things Sam and his agent haggled over. The salary is preset and non negotiable.

I would never say we should have drafted Mayfield. I don't care if Q is signed today, but he can't miss more than a day over stupid language. And the reason I didn't care last year about Darnold is because we finally had our QB. Finding a DT is not that hard to do. He may turn into an incredible player, but that position is not that hard to find. I was kind of kidding when I said what I said, but I wanted Allen over Q as pass rusher is way harder to find. Until Q proves otherwise I will believe we should have drafted Allen. I have seen interviews with Q and he seems like a decent kid.

Trust me I get it. I wanted Allen over Q as well but the Jets had a hard on for Q in the worst way and hopefully its warranted. From his Bama highlights he looks like he's going to be the next Reggie White or Warren Sapp at the worst. Lets all hope for either.

Apparently the Jets are trying to offset his signing bonus and defer part of the payment to next year (which isn't unusual). What is unusual is the Jets are trying to offset a record amount as far as percentage wise (not sure why our new administration sees fit to try to nickle and dime a draft pick).

So this actually isn't on Williams at all, the Jets are pulling a stupid move here.

Seems like no matter who the Jets hire they will be sucked into the shithole of the Jets.

Countdown to “fire Joe Douglass” in 3,2,1...

So they are saying Douglas doesn't want to back off of this because he wants to set a precedent moving forward with the first round picks. If this was in line with the rest of the league I could understand the stance but it isn't (deferment percentage is out of whack).

So it's just unclear why the Jets are taking this stance and exactly what they gain from in (a few more dollars to bring in hasbeens and neverwillbes onto the 53 man roster??)

The issue is the payment structure of his signing bonus. The Jets are trying to pay it in 2 yearly installments, with the majority of it in year 2. It's far from a record amount as 1 top draft pick signed this season with a lesser amount year 1.
The Jets gain no cap relief at all with the structure as the signing bonus is prorated over the life of the contract.
Q's reason for wanting 100% up front is due to the amount of state tax withholding. He is currently a resident of Alabama and will save $100k by receiving the income now vs next year as a NJ resident.
It's actually nice to see a kid looking at his finances intelligently. On the Jets end, it's one of two things causing their reluctance. They are either trying to manipulate the cash spending floor rule, or Woody is wanting to gain another years return on where ever his cash is invested increasing his profits.
I'm sure in the end they will come to a resolution sooner rather than later.

Then, I don't blame the kid. 100k is 100k. Although he is a multi millionaire now. Still Woody can afford it more
