The Jets have placed safeties Marcus Maye and Brandon Bryant on the active/physically unable to perform list and rookie cornerback Bless Austin on the active/non-football-injury list.

Maye, who is recovering from shoulder and thumb injuries that cut his 2018 season short, practiced in 7-on-7 periods in OTAs and minicamp, but was held out of team drills.

Bryant spent last year on the Green & White’s practice squad after he wasn’t selected in the supplemental draft. Austin, this year’s sixth-round draft pick out of Rutgers, is rehabbing a season-ending knee injury suffered in the Scarlet Knights’ 2018 season opener.

All three players can return to practice when cleared.

Maye has been consistently hurt since year one and it’s very frustrating because he is an excellent player. I don’t know anything about this Bryant kid and Austin might turn out to being a waisted draft pick. He’s suffered from two devastating leg injuries in his college career. Will he ever return from that? If he does he might turn out to be an excellent player as well, which makes that very frustrating.

Hopefully Maye will be healthy for the start of the season. He participated in OTA's (in a limited fashion), so hopefully they are just playing it safe with him.

He's an excellent player and a great running mate for Adam's so hopefully the organization is just be precautious and he isn't actually still hurt.

My understanding is that they are being cautious but fully expect him to be ready for the season.

Why force it right now? He had shoulder surgery last year and they need him ready for week one. He’s apparently right on track with his rehab and hasn’t had any setbacks.

I just hope he can stay healthy and have a productive season. Maye is a ballhawk and displayed some really good skills in the secondary during his rookie season. If he can stay healthy and improve on that, we will have a seriously nasty Safety combo with him and Adams

I like Maye too, but the Jets are pretty deep at the position. Middleton might be one of the most underrated players on this team. And Rontez Miles isn’t bad, either.

I think the Jets will be fine at this position regardless.

CB? That’s another discussion.

I agree 100%. He hasn't had any kind of new injury. The doctors are just not ready to clear him to play just yet.but fully expect him to be ready to play when the season starts.

Yeah, CB is where my concerns are as well.

A lot depends on whether or not Trumaine Johnson has a bounce back season. He played well for Gregg Williams before, so maybe a culture/schematic change will help.

After that, there are big questions. Claiborne leaving opens up a hole on the other side. Roberts looks decent, but can he play 16 games as the CB2? That’s a gamble.

We do have a lot of young guys battling it out in camp, so maybe one of the late round picks from several years ago will emerge. There are about five or six of them.

The front seven better be lights out because if they can’t find any corners on the team as it stands or from other teams cuts in a few weeks, CB will be a MAJOR weakness. Roberts and Poole are average at best and probably below that. They will get eaten alive most games, especially by the elite WRs. So our only hope is someone or two of the younger corners currently on the team stepping up and being what we need. Grabbing some ones scraps that will be cut during pre-season games or before or even the former Jets, Claiborne may not work either.

At any rate I am confident that Douglas is giving this situation his full attention and will do whatever he can to address that area of the field before the season starts.
