I like this signing. Cooper has both size and experience. He kind of reminds me of Cro.
I know my opinion means ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to the Jets but I don't like this signing. If your going to sign someone unproven then sign a younger player, 23 years or younger. Someone who can hopefully grow and learn and be a contributor to the team. All this guy has proven is that he can stay in the league but he isn't good enough to actually play or stay with one team. Not doubting Joe but I'm doubting Joe on this one. We are so weak at the CB spot that we need a huge trade for a #1 guy who can play and help DAY ONE or the young player that can be groomed into a player for us.
The cost of obtaining a #1 CB is astronomical. Think about this from the other side: if you were a team with a stud #1 CB, would you trade him to the Jets for a couple of draft picks? Maybe if you were a GM who wants to be fired.
And before people get all nutty about Macc “ignoring the CB position”, remember that he signed Morris Claiborne, Trumaine Johnson, and Brian Poole. Claiborne was a decent CB on an affordable short term deal, and TJ was coming off a great season when we signed him to the mega deal. He didn’t perform to the level of the contract, but who could’ve predicted that? Other than the “know it alls” who claim to have seen it all along? TJ was a great FA signing at the time by 90% of fans and media. No matter what people claim now with their 20/20 hindsight.
Hopefully TJ doesn’t miss too much time. Even though he underperformed his contract last season, he’s still a good CB. And he’s playing under a DC he’s had a lot of success with in the past.
Jet fans should be ecstatic. that Cooper , or for that matter , any warm body became available to sign , given the dire situation at CB , especially now with training camp injury issues. If better options become available when teams start trimming their rosters , I'm quite sure JT will be quick to jump on it.

Why should we be ecstatic that Cooper (a journeyman CB) or any warm body that becomes available? I don't! I want a stud CB who may shake loose after cuts. Or wait till FA and the Draft. I'm for winning! Not same old Jets!!!
You and 31 other teams want a stud CB. Dream on dude.
Some Jets fans want all of this team’s holes filled with the wave of a magic wand. They want rebuilds to happen overnight. They expect unrealistic expectations out of thin air.
I disregard this nonsense. Douglas will make upgrades when he can. Champ Bailey in his prime isn’t coming here next week. It doesn’t matter who the GM is.
No one is talking about rebuilds over night!! No one is talking about Champ Bailey!! No one is talking about filling all the holes overnight!! We are talking about a CB, a good CB who may shake loose during cuts or wait till next year and sign one in FA or draft one. So if you think getting a CB in the Draft or FA is nonsense, then your the one who needs to be disregarded!!
Not sure, but, I don't think he has played a game in a year. That doesn't mean he can't be good but it makes me have doubts about the signing. He'll have to earn a spot on the roster. At any rate I would think Truedell will not want to continue this on again off again routine with the Jets.
Douglas will do his job. He’s got his eyes open to what becomes available. The guy reached out to a retired Center for help, and landed Kalil. That’s a big time signing to plug that hole for a year or two.
Cooper has 7 career INT’s including a pick 6 over his career. He’s not gonna be a star, but he hasn’t exactly been a bum either. A hold the fort type player until Trumaine gets healthy. Hopefully the week to week status stays that way and this injury doesn’t become a month to month problem.
I like the Kalil signing, but he is just a band-aid (a good band-aid) till we draft one.
