Part of me hates this guy, but, part of me loves him. I'm glad we got SD, but, if the Clowns took him, I would've been okay with BM(BM, his initials kind of says it all).
10/26 with 1 INT. Not so easy without weapons playing.
The kid can definitely play. Can’t take that from him but there’s a year of film on him and he has a HUGE target on his back that he put there. So the year won’t be as easy as he or his supporters thinks. In my 2019 teams predictions thread I have the Browns with the same record as our team,10-6/9-7. So I believe they are a playoff contender or borderline playoff contender anyway.
So they’ll be in the mix just like we will but they’re not just walking in like most think they will. As long as we beat them come week two and they don’t end up with a better record then us this year I’m good with it. Mayfield I believe eyes will be opened and he will be brought back down to earth this year. Will it truly change his attitude, I don’t know but he’ll be humbled a bit.

1. I think Baker is the real deal and I think we are going to see the next brady/peyton rivalry in the future between sam and him it should be fun.
2. I like that he is crazy brash - so tired of vanilla crap these athletes give us in these puff pieces. The smack talking makes it more fun. Think about this when you hang out with Giant fans, fish heads, buf, pats fans - when do you not engage in smack talk. It is part of sports. It keeps it real. In the last couple of decades athletes have become so sterile. Do you honestly think any athlete would pull a Namath now and declare a SB victory before they played? No way.
I say let Mayfield talk trash - besides he is stating the obvious. The only thing close to the enjoyment I am having from Sam, Gase, our defensive front, and our GM, is how stupid and bad the Giants are and will continue to be for the next decade. I even enjoy the completely moronic (and possibly racist) moves Dave Gettlemen has made on the Giants as he has destroyed them for the next ten years. He has traded or released every player that took a knee, he whitewashed at QB and picked the worst college QB at #6 stat wise rather than have a black QB who had better numbers than both peyton and brady in college and he threw away a black super star in odell after paying him a fortune because he didnt like him talking. Maybe it isnt racists - but either way it isnt smart football business. I am not including the other stupid picks the Giants made in the draft this year because I dont feel like giving them any more of my time.
As far as Baker goes - game on - We will see him in Game 2 at home and he better bring it, because the Jets are hungry!

Spot on with the Gettlemen analogy. I started a thread about this awhile back before even the draft (I believe) and got crushed about this. I guess other Jets fans thought I was putting Adam Gase in the mode as Gettlemen but that’s not what I was doing. Anyway, Mayfield being who he is will catch up with him eventually and I am truly looking forward to that. He definitely can play and back up his words to an extent. Sooner or later this will all catch up to him.
Someone like Brady who’s just as competitive as Mayfield loves to talk shit but will only talk shit during the game or after it’s been thrown his way. Mayfield likes to start it, Brady likes to finish it. Darnold isn’t a talker at all but is just as competitive as them both. That’s why Darnold wouldn’t send Brady a happy birthday shoot out awhile back and he respectfully declined to do so. No one really gave him flack about because of the type of person Darnold is.
He loves to talk about being a winner. He won the Heismann. Who cares!! So have lots of shitty QB’s. He has won a bunch of games with NFL caliber rosters in a very weak conference. Never won a championship. He talks like he has won something. At least Jones won more than he lost at Duke. A shitty school.

Yea completely agree - its why I really do see him as Peyton Manning type personality who plays like Aaron Rodgers. It is the best of both worlds. Baker is like Tom Brady in personality, but plays like brees. I'd rather have Sam but I do really think Baker could become a long term rival in the next QB generation - could be a lot of fun.
How can you know that anymore than anyone thinks he is good based on your data points? At the moment he is a talented QB who won quite a bunch in college and who managed to make the Browns look half way decent last season. Maybe he will crash and burn, but right now his star is rising and I really dont mind him calling a turd (Jones) a turd. Is it any different from when Jamal Adams said we needed better players last year. He was right too. I really wish we had more athletes be brash today. It has actually hurt a lot of sports in terms of viewership all of this sterile mail it in interviews. Look at NASCAR as a great example. One of the most popular sports in America is currently loosing viewers dramatically just because the drivers are considered very bland in personality compared to the past. Same thing in baseball as well.

I've never met him, but I know plenty of stories about him from college from people who know him. And when I said he was being a phony I'm referring to him backtracking his story about Jones and other things he has said. If he speaks his mind then he should tell his bosses "hey that's who I am, deal with it." He backed down at OU also.

If he is going to win the SB it better be this year because that team is going to implode with OBJ and then Kareem Hunt will surely beat the shit out of another random chick. Kids love Baker because he acts the way he does. That won't play well in the long term with men. Rex Ryan flamed out hard and quickly. The same could happen with Baker.

To all.. Samd Pre- season stats assuming he doesn't play any more:
17-for-25 68% completion , 211 yards, 2TD's, 0 INTs — a 120.6 passer rating. Hopefully he can carry this play into regular season. He didn't have a great game #3 but I feel the O-line had a lot to do with that. He was under pressure all game. I also feel Gase was playing it very vanilla ...but that's expected. On 2 sets of downs he called a draw play on 3rd & 12, & 3rd & 5. I expect more from Gase during regular season.
When Baker plays shitty teams everyone thinks he is great. When he plays good teams he shows what he basically is and that is an arrogant, small, one read QB. Even when he was setting the rookie TD record he was still that guy. I still think Sam has the highest ceiling of the 5 QB’s picked last year if we can ever get him healthy and get him a real HC.
