Patriots trade Demaryius Thomas to Jets

Demaryius Thomas is leaving New England having never played a game there.

Thomas, the veteran wide receiver who was with the Patriots this offseason but did not play in Week One, is being traded to the Jets, according to multiple reports.

The Jets are sending a 2021 sixth-round draft pick to New England in the deal.

Jets head coach Adam Gase was the Broncos’ wide receivers coach while Thomas spent his first three NFL seasons in Denver, and then Gase spent two more years as the Broncos’ offensive coordinator. Thomas played his best football when playing for Gase.

Now Gase will see how much Thomas has left. At the age of 31 and coming off a season-ending Achilles injury last year, Thomas is no longer the player he once was. But he still may be able to contribute in a place where he already knows the offense.

Figures, they couldn’t trade us N’Keal Harry but they trade us Thomas? He beyond his prime and must be garbage at this point for this to have happened! He’s still probably better then any other WR we have, other than Crowder!

Goes to show how little they fear the Jets, that they would do this with a Divisional rival who they play twice.

I'm starting to doubt Douglas.

Hate to say it but I’m starting to feel a certain type of way also. He’s bringing in a lot of past their prime, bench warmers or just over the hill guys period. Hopefully this is just something to keep us competitive this year and next year, he’ll draft well and get with the youth movement. That’s the only real way to build a franchise correctly.

This also goes to show the wealth of weapons the Patriots have. D. Thomas is actually 31 years old and he was once an elite WR. This is the same age as Antonio Brown I might add. You would have to think that at only 31 years old he would be capable of giving a team some very legit numbers. Maybe not his 100 plus catches, 1400 plus yards and 10 plus tds, Denver Broncos numbers but something worth talking about but the Pats don’t care. Not only do they not care but they must know he’s not capable anymore of putting up respectable numbers. So they trade him for a 6th round pick because they know they have 10-15 other players that can contribute the way they want and need to help them get that 7th, 8th and 9th SB ring. This shit will never end with these fuckers. SMDH!

Brown isn't coming off an Achilles tear.

Lets just bring back Tim Tebow!!

Come on TCT, your being ridiculous. Thomas was once an elite WR and he’s only 31 years old. Anything he can give us will be helpful. Even if it’s only 30 catches for 300 yards a 3 tds. That’s more then we would have had without him. Now maybe he actually can give us more then that. He’ll probably be very motivated to prove something to the Pats and the league being that they gave up on him.

Is Thomas healthy enough to play yet? At this point if he can be a solid possession receiver and open things up for Anderson down the field I'll take it as a win LOL

No issues with this trade but for this trade to happen, the pats must think he has nothing left in the tank. Hopefully he proves everyone wrong and can contribute. We need good wideouts.

I will as well. He played the entire preseason this year and looked pretty damn good. So he must be healthy and the Pats just figured it doesn’t matter, he will be of no real benefit to us anyway because we’re the Jets. Well I hope he makes them regret this move and makes this a classic case of the saying, “One mans trash is another mans treasure!”

I believe that if he's healed, and the team doctors would have looked into that, even at 31 years old a pro bowl caliber player like him could very likely help us out. I'm good with the trade. The upside is worth the risk and there's not a lot of good help available until the next draft.

I know he did this with Peyton Manning but this was only about five years ago when he put up numbers like 115 catches for 1600 yards and 15 tds. That is damn near all world numbers and he did that for like 6-7 straight years. He’s only 31 years old, he has to have something left in him that can get us numbers close to that.
