I respect that you think Darnold is a franchise QB. Too soon for me to say that. He's just not played enough games.

Wow another person that thinks like I do.....maybe that's why I like teams from saint louis......from the "show me state". I hope he is the best thing out there but lets see him play somemore

All us Jet fans need to do is look at how Sanchez turned out. Tanny and Rex touted him as the new messiah even though he'd not played very many games in college. I didn't get it then and am still perplexed by their decision to draft him. Let's hope Darnold turns out better than Mr. Buttfumble.

i hear what you guys are saying as far as can we wait & see just a bit longer?? i disagree, i'd be stunned at this point if my eyes are lying to me about this kid..

much higher rated prospect coming out of USC than sanchez.. & i'd dare say darnold has already made a bunch of throws/plays in the league sanchez never had the natural ability to make..

Sanchez didn't show one thing to make people think he was a FQB. Darnold has the physical tools which Sanchez did not. Darnold has the mental makeup to succeed in NY, Sanchez did not.

My point about Sanchez was that neither he nor Darnold played that much in college. So at this point, it's difficult to really see where Darnold is or will be. Whether he can make throws or not, Darnold got benched last year. Yeah, he played better in the second half, but nothing which would make you think he's can't miss. And due to mono, he's only played two games this year. Again, not much to evaluate.

In his first two year run, yes folks were thinking we found gold in Sanchez. No doubt he contributed to us getting into two consecutive AFCCGs. Then Rex' D went south, reality of Sanchez' skills set became clear, and the implosion happened.

As for all Darnold's "physical skills" and "mental toughness" you site? That's your opinion. Again, he has just not played enough games to properly evaluate where he is as a QB. I want you to be right. But I need to see more, especially against good teams.

Again, you are right. As fans we all want to see him be great but lets see it against all teams. He has been known in the past to give the ball away lets see if he can get over that,,,some can & some can't. I think this kid can do it & last week was special but lets see mores first

I've been a Jet fan since the mid-60s. In that time, I've seen/heard all the fan and media frenzy over a whole slew of QBs. Guys like Todd, Obie, Nagel, O'Donnell, Vinny, Chad, Geno.... Other than a bit of success, not one of these guys got us to another Super Bowl. As much as I think the guy sucked, Sanchez came the closest (and to an O Lineman's butt too).

I don’t remember Darnold getting benched. I remember a few missed games from an ankle injury. He wasn’t all pro at the beginning of the year as a rookie starting week one, but never bad enough to be benched.

The team made up some flimsy excuse about a foot injury. But make no mistake Darnold got benched for not playing well. It was widely reported last season.

EDIT: Darnold did hurt his foot, but seemed to surprise everyone, especially Bowles who initially did not report it after the game. Then they kind of babied Darnold to give him time to process his overall playing which was not very good.

"It has been a tough few weeks for Sam Darnold, but the Jets are not deviating from their plan for their rookie quarterback -- for now.
The 21-year-old had by far his worst performance of the season on Sunday, throwing four interceptions, including a pick-six, in a 13-6 loss to the Dolphins to fall to 3-6.
Darnold now has seven interceptions compared to two touchdowns in his last three games and it prompted head coach Todd Bowles to be asked whether or not he would consider benching the quarterback.
"Not at this time, no," he said, per SNY's Ralph Vacchiano.
Darnold's regression has resulted in a three-game losing streak for the Jets but the rookie took full accountability for the most recent lost against a division rival.
"I thought I played stupid football," Darnold said on Monday. "I've just got to be better. I know that. The coaches know it. Everybody knows it."
Darnold will get another chance to change the course next Sunday at home against the Bills -- the only team in their division with a worse record -- before the team heads into its bye week. "

The difference is Darnold has shown major improvement from when he was injured or "benched". Sanchez never showed flashes. He had an awesome OL and weapons. Darnold has a terrible OL.

Yeah, I was never a Sanchez guy. I remember watching the big introduction with Rex and not understanding what they all saw in him after a very short tenure at USC.

Once again, I AM NOT putting down Darnold; just want to see more games from him. As of now, his body of work is 15 games. For me, too soon to anoint anyone as a franchise QB.

We both agree its too early, but I know he will be better than any Jets QB since Namath. Sanchez was one of the biggest reaches by a desperate organization. Just like pursuing the overrated Cousins. Darnold fell in our lap and has shown enough that tells me if he can be given some real weapons that he will develop into at the very least top 10 QB. When listening to Rex and Tanny you could tell they were used car salesmen trying to sell us a lemon. I just feel like every single quote from players, coaches and GM's that they all feel Darnold has unlimited potential. I will say it again the Jets are the only ones that can ruin Darnold. He may get exposed a little this week or he might explode. Thats what makes me excited about Darnold. I never not once felt that way about Sanchez. Of course I don't expect smooth sailing with 300+ every week because he just doesn't have the roster for that, but I do think he made each of our average pieces way better last week. The one thing I really like about Darnold is he seems to learn from his mistakes. He doesn't seem to make the same mistake multiple times.

Great post. We see it pretty much the same way. And you're dead on about the Jets being the only ones who will ruin Darnold. History has shown us that we're top of the class with that.

Don't forget Farve

I didn't. Favre was a mercenary I initially did not want. Figured it would be a one year disaster. Next thing you know, he starts playing out of his mind and I went all in. Then, like NY Jets clockwork, he blows out his shoulder and we go nowhere again. Classic. If Favre doesn't get hurt? No doubt in my mind that we go to the Super Bowl and probably win with that team.
