The Jets could be looking to move on from Leonard Williams.

According to a report by ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Sunday, multiple teams have reached out to the Jets about the availability of the defensive end.

The team is apparently not interested in trading Williams at this time. The NFL trade deadline is Oct. 29 at 4 p.m. ET.

Williams is in the last year of his rookie contract, and while his counting stats have consistently underwhelmed, he’s drawn praise from Gang Green’s new coaching staff this season.

“He really has played well,” defensive coordinator Gregg Williams said Friday. “He’s graded out high each and every week, and doing things that maybe don’t show up [in stats], but doing things schematically, and team-wise what you have to do.”

The 25-year-old, the No. 6 overall pick in 2015, has racked up 11 tackles this season and 17 sacks in 68 games with the Jets.

For a guy who is supposed to be a game changer he has games where he completely goes MIA from the boxscore and is invisible out there.

Jets need edge rushers and need to stop wasting picks on interior D lineman

Remember that awesome Abraham-Ellis combo? Problem with Abraham is that he'd always get hurt when we were going into the playoffs.

I tell my son all the time, I wish he could have seen Abraham play! Last real pass rusher this team had

You would have loved him. As I mentioned above though, there were a couple of times when he got hurt and either couldn't or wouldn't play in an important playoff game. I still think Abraham was an all time Jet great.

EDIT: From NY Post:

January 6, 2005

"What was such great news only a day ago now has become a somewhat murky situation, leaving the Jets a bit on edge.

Despite John Abraham’s improved status on the injury report and the fact he’s been practicing since Friday, he suddenly doesn’t seem like such a lock to return to the field Saturday for the Jets’ wild-card playoff game against the Chargers in San Diego.

After Herman Edwards had, since Monday, given the impression his Pro Bowl defensive end, who missed the past four games with a sprained right knee, would be ready to return, Abraham yesterday left everyone with this distinct message: Not too fast.

Abraham sounded a lot less optimistic than the impression the club had been giving. It’s clear he’s torn between taking a chance on reinjuring himself for the sake of his teammates and wanting to remain healthy to secure his future.

Abraham, who had 9 ½ sacks in the 12 regular-season games he played before he was injured, is an unrestricted free agent after this season, and the Jets have made no overtures toward re-signing him.

There’s rampant speculation they’ll put a franchise tag on him to keep him here another year, but who knows what his fate would be if he found himself facing offseason knee surgery?"

Ellis was always solid but Abraham was a straight out animal! Dude was so powerful and fast off the edge he was unblockable.

Watching him rack up double digit sacks for ATL after trading him, season after season, all the way into retirement was just salt in the damn wound!

You're absolutely right about Abraham's strength and speed. A total nightmare for O linemen and QBs. Yeah, watching him go off in Atlanta for all those years was so frustrating.
