Day 1 Prospect
Jet Fanatics
I'm done bitchin' about the past, I had to get it out of my system LOL. It was helpful getting this stuff off my chest.
The question now is: how and when do we begin to start getting this stuff right?
1/ For decades we hoped to land a franchise QB - I think we have one with Darnold. He's young. If I recall correctly, a young Manning was a turnover machine then started to click. Let's be patient with the kid.
2/ One quality I admired about Parcell's was that although his players might not have been the most talented, they played hard for 4 quarters. The Jets might have lost the game but the other team was physically beaten up. The Jets do not play 4 quarters. That is the coach's fault.
3/ Our offensive line is either manhandled or executing the wrong block. Are the players physically in shape? Are they mentally sharp? The one quality I liked about Mangini was he demanded his players on both sides of the ball be mentally cognizant and not shoot themselves in the foot. If our players are not physically or mentally prepared, that is the coach's fault.
4/ Football is like Chess. You must study, prepare, and anticipate. You must avoid trending such that smart coaches (like Bielichick) read your strategy like an open book. If your team is constantly out-maneuvered, out-performed, beaten down, and embarrassed (like you should be) then this is on the coach.
5) Last I checked, NE Patriots and Jets players come from the same colleges. So why is it that the Pats can draft 7th round future HOF QBs and the Jets draft 1st round DE busts like Gholston?. I'd put money that if Veron was drafted by the Pats, they would have developed him properly. Since these kids all start out from the same colleges, then the difference between NE and NY are the coaches.
Summary: Instead of flushing out and trading away everyone, how about making sure the organization has the right people to run it at the top. If the top is bad, then all new players, a rebuilding process, once again, will yield the same result.

5...the patriots would have been smarter with seeing that Vernon Gholston was going to be a bust. They would have drafted a perennial all pro middle linebacker like Jerod Mayo comes to mind.

That's two many fives! Replay the down & take a 10 yard penalty!

I agree. so do you want to be coach? because I just sent a letter to the Johnsons that I found a guy who understands the problem

problem is finding the right coach that understands this. I don't understand why it should be so hard. I guess a lot of them are just boneheaded and want to do things their way and will not deviate from that plan because they see it as failure

belichick is not so different. he just finally figured it out. Look at his history as cheetah coach
1. year one he sucked.
2. year 2 he brought in a dozen player that were former Jets that new the system. He added them to the core players that Parcells had left behind on the cheatahs who also new the system. He videotaped the other teams practices and signals and won 3 spy gate bowls.
3. after this, belichick went nuts a little. He tried to win by scoring a zillion points rather than winning with defense which is the proven way. finally after adding Randy Moss and any explosive offensive weapon he could find he returned to defense. The explosive offensive cheetah teams were not the superbowl winning teams. they always were close though
4. he then stole from the Jets once more by way of Tamba bay. he signed Revis and Browner from the Seahawks and He gave Revis a superbowl ring. Or really Revis gave Belichick another superbowl ring. Since then, Belichick has gone back to a defense wins championships style of coaching . he went a little nuts vs. The Eagles and benched some of his defense but he now knows what wins championships and I don't think he'll forget it. He may pull an ego trip again like vs. the Eagles but if not he will just keep winning superbowls indefinitely. I'll add that I don't believe for a second that he has stopped videotaping and stealing signals

one thing that Belichick always had was a guy who proceeded his time in NE. Dante Scarnechia. this guy turns any player into a tom brady protecting machine. he is so good at it that once he retired, belichick convinced him to return very quickly

the other thing is that belichick is willing to spend 24/7 looking for ways to win. he will study the playbook and find loopholes to use to his advantage. How many rules have they rewritten to try and stop this guy. He is unbelievable. he would cut off his balls with a dull saw to win a game

so there you have it. all we need to win is Belichick and Scarnechia. Belichick will be around for a long time and for whatever reason, he hates the Jets. Scarnechia is 72? He can't stay forever but he has already come out of retirement once.

at worst. we need the next Belichick. I don't think Gase is that unless he becomes less boneheaded and adapts his system. He should easily see that it isn't working. If not he is brain dead

You brought up a lot of great points. If you were to objectively analyze most of the Jets inadequacies over the years, you see repeating themes:
1/ 'They're not mentally prepared - most of our mistakes our self-inflicted
2/ They're not physically prepared - our offensive line is manhandled and our defensive line is easily pushed aside
3/ They're unimaginative. - they trend over and over.
4/ We do not spend money resources wisely
5/ We do not draft wisely - how long have we said the OL needed lots of help. Look at Bell, we have one of the best RBs in the league and
he gets hit 2 yards behind the line on every play.
6/ I think our ownership is clueless.
