They need football people making football decisions. That's what it comes down to. Joe Douglas is a football guy. He played the game, he came up through the ranks in a great franchise. I'm going all in on his ability to turn this franchise around. If they got that hire right, and Christopher Johnson realizes quick that Gase isn't who he thought he was - and moves on, then this team has a legitimate chance to turn it around. Christopher has a vision - I think it's the right one. He just keeps getting people that can't realize it. Bowles and Mac seemed like decent hires at the time. It didn't work out. OK, that's history. Douglas needs to be the guy who turns this around. And if Gase isn't the right guy for Darnold and this franchise, they need to move on quick. Because we can't waste another year waiting for Gase to suddenly become a good coach. This team has roster issues - a ton of them. It's going to be hard for any coach to win in these circumstances. But, they seem to be regressing.
Here's my opinion - there are two options: 1. Cut bait now, and move on from Gase. 2. Finish the season and see where we land. Did Darnold make progress over the last 9 games. Did this offense improve. If not, move on and go find the right guy. Go get Harbaugh, or McCarthy or someone with a track record of winning and has been a head coach. You put Darnold in Harbaugh's pro offense, with a good o-line he's a Pro Bowl player. You put him in McCarthy's offense with a good o-line he's a Pro Bowl player. This team needs an identity. The owner needs to go get one. I believe that is his vision for the franchise, he just needs the right people around him.
