2020: Who will be the starting middle linebacker(s)?

Do you really think after the tumultuous injury situation that occurred with this position and the two highly paid free agents that Maccagnan signed this past off season, will Joe Douglas cut bait?

Saving $16 M for 2020 on CJ Mosley seems like something they have to do... When he was active for two half of games he made a difference but only 2 partial games he played...

Blake Cashman looked decent but the Jets will have to find a partner to run with him... Neville Hewitt looks like a solid role option who has the capability to be a starter... Avery Williamson price tag compared to CJ Mosley is more than half and his contract only runs through 2020...

We need some leadership on this team. Mosley is that. Of course you can't lead very well if you're not playing. I'm hoping he's healthy and stays. Of course the whole team needs to find a way to forget this season ever existed to have any chance for next year

Wouldn't cutting Mosley cost us a $30 million dollar cap hit? I think it's an extra 12.5 against the cap, not in savings.

All his guaranteed money would accelerate onto next year's cap. Also the current cap showing is pretty inaccurate. We had $42 million before releasing Osemele and Faulk who will both be paid in full for the season, Osemele could even collect next year's salary if he can't pass a physical by the start of the new league year. Douglas really miss handed that situation. We only saved $2 million in the leo trade, we agreed to pay $4 of the $6 million he was due. I don't know where the $18 million additional savings is coming from in current reports. I'm guessing it's Osemele's salary for 2020 , Faulks too, plus the $4 were paying Williams not being accounted for.

I'd love to see a healthy Williamson & Mosley (Healthy!!)

I think that inside combo would have been completely dominant this season if healthy

Mosley has to stay both for the financial reasons that Tony mentioned and the leadership qualities that CH mentioned. He is an expensive piece of the defense but I believe he will make sure he is healthy next season and earn his money.

C.J. Mosley contract is steeped with hooks...

On March 18th a $10 M roster bonus kicks in... Also his $6 M base salary becomes guaranteed.. There is also a $1.5 M prorated bonus which is also guaranteed...

So if the Jets cut him they will owe him just the $1.5 M prorated for 2020 but in 2021 $8 M of his salary is guaranteed, which becomes additional dead loss...

of the remaining years each year has a prorated bonus of $1.5 M, if cut after this season the $6 M prorated becomes dead loss...

so 2021 $8 M guaranteed and $6 M prorated is the dead loss of this contract signed... Can split the dead loss over the years remaining of the contract... $14 M divided by 4 years is $2.5 M dead loss each year...

so of the $72 M remaining over the four years we will save $58 M if they cut him... this contract stipulates the 2021 contract of $8 M guaranteed would move on the the team that trades for him simply removing from the $14 M to $6 M over the final 4 years which would be only $1.5 M per year dead loss...
