The Jets may be without star safety Jamal Adams for the foreseeable future.
Coach Adam Gase said Adams has a left ankle sprain, which will keep him out of practice this week and it could keep him out against the Dolphins on Sunday. With the next game after that coming on “Thursday Night Football” against the Ravens, it is conceivable he could miss their next two games unless he heals quickly.
“I think it is a legit week-to-week,” Gase said Monday afternoon. “I am waiting on the details of what the injury is. I am going to lean on him a lot too as far as how he feels. We want to make sure that he is good to go before we put him back out there. I just want to make sure that he is in the right place physically so he can go play his style of ball. Basically he is the heartbeat of our defense and we need him to be able to go full throttle and he has to feel right for him to go back out there.”
Adams had a walking boot on his left foot after Sunday’s 22-6 loss to the Bengals. He was emotional when he spoke to reporters. Adams said the injury occurred early in Sunday’s game, but he played through the pain.
The injury probably contributed to a quiet game from Adams, who had only one tackle. He has been the Jets’ best player in recent weeks and they will feel his absence.
