Will Darnold finally hit 3,000 yds and 20 TDs?

Yes this is only Darnold’s second year so obviously he will eventually throw for over 3,000 yards and 20 TDs but will he do it this year? The Jets are playing that ridiculous Buffalo defense but will their defense play all their starters this last game of the season? I believe their already locked into the 5th seed so they have nothing more to play for.

At this point it’s all about keeping their players healthy for the wild-card game. So either way, will Darnold make the mark? This year, he has thrown from a little over 2,800 yards and 18 TDs so far. This is two years straight he hasn’t hit the mark of 3,000 yards and 20 TDs. Not that big a deal because you gotta account for his 3 games lost each year. So can he do it this year?

Yeah I know this is a pointless thread but what else do we have at this point? Gotta look towards something and have something to talk about with this damn team.

I hope so. He would end the long drought of his NFL career not ever having hit it.

It'll be tough and just for the record I think Buffalo will play all of their starters in an effort to keep them tuned in to playing up to par.

I think it would be more likely they played their starters if they had a bye. But without a bye, they are more likely to rest their guys.

"Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott announced on Tuesday that the team had decided that they were going to be judicious with starters but still let the majority of first-teamers play in the season finale this weekend. Buffalo is locked into the fifth seed in the AFC playoff picture.
“I wish I could take them all out, we just don’t have the numbers to do that,” said McDermott on Tuesday. “We feel this is the right decision for this team at this time. Not all of them are going to play the same amount. We do want to stay sharp.”

McDermott admitted that backup quarterback Matt Barkley will see some time in the season finale but that second-year QB Josh Allen would start the game. He didn’t get into specifics on any other players. “It’s big picture,” said McDermott. “It’s where we are as a team. Where we are as this team this year and where we’re trying to go, we feel like this is the right thing for this team, this year in this situation.”

So expect preseason-like time. The starters get maybe most of the first half, then most get replaced as they are able.

I think if anything can be said about Gase, it's that he does a whole lot better over the course of a week mapping out his first 10-15 plays than he does making adjustments on the fly.

The Jets have been much better in their first couple drives, and much worse in the third quarter, than they should be.

Now, the worst coaches aren't good at either mapping out a plan or making adjustments. The decent ones can do one of the two. The really good coaches can do both. So far, Gase has shown he can do one of the two.

Sam Darnold finishes the year 7-6 with 3,000 yards (exactly), a passer rating of 85, 19 TDs (21 total) & 13 INTs.

Not really, the high balls, the bounce passes, multiple dropped picks. He makes some great passes, and alot of terrible throws. Nothing to debate

I put more into statistics than into anecdotal evidence. In this case, I think you will find underthrows and overthrows from every QB.

I'd like his completion percentage more around 65%, but finishing over 60% and having a passer rating of 85 is a good step forward.

For me, you can use the eye test for any QB and find what you want to find.

Besides, I am far more inclined to trust the eye test when it comes from NFL scouts and player personnel folks than from fans on a message board.

It's actually the other way around. Stats without context are meaningless.
Watching the game gives you an accurate measure of a players performance.
If a QB has 4 picks in a game and 3 are off his recievers hands and a 4th came because a Reciever fell, the stats will tell you the QB was terrible.
Same as if a QB completes 25 passes within 3 yards of the LOS and his recievers make tons of YAC. The stats will show you a QB who appears elite, rather than a game manager.
Learn to trust your eyes.....

Today is a prime example. Lots of bad throws and failure to convert on a ton of third down opportunities. And let's not forget that our first team, with Darnold, was playing the game against the Bills second and thirds. I would uave expected Darnold to have put up three or four TDs. But that's not what we got. I still don't see the allure of Sam Darnold.

I don't know if Darnold is a 15 year FQB, but I do know he is the best we have had since Pennington. He has been given the worst roster for his first two years of any Jets QB. Build the roster and then evaluate in year 3 and 4. If he shits the bed then its no big deal because the roster will be much better for the next guy.
